View Full Version : If Lebron is so efficient, why does he only shoot 75% from the free throw line?

probably the easiest shot in the game next to a wide open layup yet lebron doesnt take the time to work on his free throws. Why? Is it cuz no one looks at ft% on the boxscores so he doesnt need to work on it? Or is it that its a stat that he cant statpad so he doesnt try? I mean even blake griffin shot 71% last year and his guy has absolutely perimeter shot

this is very relevant as the big thing with lebron is efficiency, how more efficicent can u get then to maximize the easiest points to get in a game? yet he doesnt do this why?

If James shoots, say, 9 fts a game, that means he's hitting 7 or 8 fts every night. If he hits the 80%+ that would be from a good ft shooter he is now hitting... 7 or 8 fts per game, with the 8 hit slightly more often. Oh, and "efficiency" is about his whole offensive game, not just him being average at the ft line. So you made this completely uninteresting topic that will change no one's mind over a diffence that may mean 1 point every few games.
This kind of topic is what defines you as a troll. Don't make any more James topics.

on 20 fga per game 50% means one more basket than 45%, yet one means youre efficient but the other means youre a chucker... and not to mention that doesnt consider the fact that each basket is not even worth the same amount of points, one could be a 2 pointer another 3 pointer, yet a difference of possibly 0 points is considered a legitimate argument for efficiency... if youre gonna call me out for trying to troll at least get your argument straight

yup, can't even shoot 80% like the other great perimeter players (Kobe, MJ), he has never done it for a full NBA season.

on 20 fga per game 50% means one more basket than 45%, yet one means youre efficient but the other means youre a chucker... Everything about this is subjective. A guy shooting 45% is not necessarily doing the wrong thing (much depends on teammates, scheme, role) plus James just shot 56.7%, which is a big part of why rational fans acknowledge that he's an efficient player.

freethrows are high pressure situation, because all attention is on you to make a simple free throw. we all know lebron is mentally weak, so thats why he shoots a less than ideal free throw percentage.

I'll say this though, as a Heat fan his FT shooting was frustrating at times. He more than made up for it in nearly every other aspect of the game. This is nitpicking at its finest.

75% hardly sucks...if you are above 75 you are doing alright. Also, realgreen is right, this thread has no point. Deandre Jordan shot .676%fg to .428%ft and Drummond shot .628%fg to .418%ft. If any "efficient" players need to go work on some ft's...it's these guys right here, yet Lebron is the one OP brings up. :confusedshrug:

You're right. I forgot what the league average is. Just a player of LeBron's caliber and high fg% I would think the freethrows would be better. It's a troll thread but I figured I'd try to answer it and end it.

The league average for FTs in 2013-14 was 75.6% and Lebron shot 75.0%.
Not inefficient, he's just an average FT shooter.

Jordan's weakness was the 3 ball.
Lebron's is free throw shooting.
Yes his ft shooting can be frustrating, but he makes more than for it with his deadly 3 point shot.
Honestly how the **** did he get so good at jumpshots, especially catch and shoot?
People praise Kobe's work ethic (matched only by MJ), but damn, Lebron has to be somewhere up there with how he has continuously improved through the years basically making him unstoppable on the court.
Hard work pays off kids.

You are wrong. Lebron doesn't do shit in the offseason except party and sit on his couch. All you need to be successful in the NBA is strength and athleticism. That is why Shannon Brown and DeAndre Jordan have been running the NBA for years.

There's no way to tell who has the best work ethic. Jordan, Kobe, Malone, Jabbar, etc....They all work/worked hard on their game and staying in shape.
We know it's not someone like Shaq, Oliver Miller, or Barkley, but there's probably other players out there who may workout as hard as the elite NBA players, but simply don't have the talent.
I really don't think MJ with 3s and Lebron with FTs are really weaknesses anyway. Lebron has ranged from 75 to 78% at the charity stripe in the last 6 seasons. That's not bad.
Jordan only put up really good 3 point numbers under the shorter length (22 ft?), but he had a couple of seasons (89-90 and 92-93) where he put up solid numbers from 3 point land with the longer line. And he generally stepped it up during the postseason.
