Goodell knew video of the incident existed and would eventually be released. How could he possibly think it would cast Rice in a positive light? You could tell he's a scumbag just by the nonchalant way he dragged his wife out of the elevator.

In the end, the 2-game suspension was a disaster for Rice. The NFL and the Ravens took so much heat for it, they were pretty forced to go the opposite extreme to save face.

I just don't get how seeing it, vs knowing it happened changes anything?

Like they knew he knocked her out, they saw her unconcious, but since they didn't see the actual punch it's all good? But sh1t, now that we saw the punch let's take action now?

No. Goodell is a f*ckboy and he's trying to save face now

apparently Rice didn't tell them the truth, which is why the Ravens released him and the NFL suspended him indefinitely. he'll have to apply for reinstatement if he wants to play in the NFL again, which its very possible he might never.

i'm guessing he told them she was drunk and they had a altercation/fight and she fell down and hit her head.

anyways sad reality of this is people are only so up in arms because its on video. most people won't be going this nuts even tho a lot of mf'ers are guilty of it, probably even worse than this, since this is a 1 punch KO....imagine if they're just beating the woman relentlessly, or terrorizing them when they're doing it like Mayweather.

Ray Rice got real unlucky. there goes $25mill.

It's definitely not impossible. There's gunna be a media and public shit storm demanding that Goodell hands in his resignation. That aside, it ultimately comes down to what the owners feel is best for business. I'm gunna guess that it's unlikely based on how well he's liked (or how much bank he's helped the owners make).

But again, to answer your question - it's possible that he'll take the fall

They said flat out they asked the police dept for all video evidence and this was never provided. If that were a lie it would be pretty easy for the police dept to refute. I doubt the NFL would just make it up like that.

Whoever had this vid was probably just holding it and waiting for the right time to sell it to tmz. NFL cover-up conspiracies seem to be a stretch of plausibility here.

They're not covering up conspiracies. They saw the video, gave him 2 games. Like they've always done with cases like this. Then after all the backlash from today they overeacted and did this.

the article I read said that the hotel claimed they had given all footage to the cops. So it seems unlikely that they hadnt seen this, but maybe they hadnt.

Also, I think this is an overreaction, made worse by the ridiculously light punishment by Roger in the first place. He pled quilty and was sentenced (or had it deferred or whatever). If I beat my wife, the courts would handle it, not my workplace. Now, should the nfl have suspended him? yes. They should have suspended him for the season and left it at that. This, after the fact, new evidence shit (and the team trying to save face) seems like a publicity move. Let him serve his deferred sentence, suspend him for the year (not indefinitely) and come back under his existing contract next year.

How is he suspended indefinitely if the protocol is 6 games for a first offense?

If you don't think that was a vicious attack then you have a very, very warped state of mind.

Also, it wasn't just that Ray Rice completely knocked the f*ck out of his then fiancee and casually pulled her body out of the elevator, it's also the fact that he lied about the incident, convinced his fiancee to marry him to cover it up, and also lied to the media and general public. When you're an NFL star there is a certain standard that you are upheld to and Ray completely failed to live up to that standard.

One ****ing punch outside of the NFL and has nothing to do with the NFL , a personal problem caught on tape. Sure its illegal thats why im fine with a 2 game suspension

its really the video. that in itself fukked Rice. he's just reallly unlucky since a lot of mf'ers have done worse if we saw video of it but Rice was unfortunate enough to have gotten caught on camera.

he's being made a example of now, and is America's most hated person. like Vick was at one time....it'll die down but NFL careers don't go very long and they're quickly replaced. NFL is a tough league to stay relevant in.

As someone eluded to earlier, in a legal circumstance this would constitute double jeopardy and would not be legal. The NFL however is not a court of law and can do as they see fit, even tho I agree this is a PR move and theyve botched this whole thing from the start.

Still I suspect Rice's lawyers are already revving their engines to get this thing in front of some kind of court or arbitrator. Cant say Id blame them. Even tho he probably deserves a stiff punishment, the leagues fumbling of this issue sets a bizarre precedent that I seriously doubt will be taken kindly to by the players union.

Ray Rice is a piece of sh1t and if it weren't for a corrupt justice system he would be a convicted felon in jail.

He initiates violence when he spits in her face, she slaps him and enters the elevator, he follows her into the elevator and again spits in her face, she again slaps him, he shrugs her off and she charges him, he punches her in the head and knocks her out cold, then he drags her lifeless body from the elevator, kicking her legs in order to get her all the way out.

It's a f*cking travesty that he is not in jail. Absolute failure by society.

I pray that Ray can humble himself and straighten out his mind

I am almost shocked at how fast the Ravens cut him. The cynical side of me wants to say they knew that this video existed and had a plan that if it got out they'd just cut him asap.

I believe both the team and the league made a blunder in giving him the 2 games, AND THEN reviewing their policy on it and changing it. They should have reviewed their policy, then done the 6 games, then go from there. Because now, from where I'm sitting, it looks like they tried their best to slap him on the wrist and hope it all went away. When it didn't it bit them on the butt.

Ray Rice spit in her face then she slapped him. That happened twice.

She deserved it because when Ray Rice spat in her face she should have ran away. Then when he did it again she should have ran away again. And she shouldn't have defended herself. She should have allowed Ray Rice to spit in her face. He is justified in knocking her out, she def had it coming.

I honestly believe the ravens and the nfl did not see the tape until just now.

As soon as the tape came out, they cut him before there was even a backlash. If they had seen it they would know the tape is obviously going to eventually leak. They would have just got rid of him immediately if they had seen it.

Just my opinion. I don't think they had seen it.

How the f does TMZ get this video footage before the police? America is fukcing disgusting.

(a) why would the hotel (or wherever it was taken) not release it to the cops straight away, and

(b) why would they release it to a media outlet before the cops.

And then you ask yourself why would TMZ release this before handing it over to the cops. Theyre trying to make money over the assault of a woman instead of trying to help her.
