Steve Nash.

Purely awarded them because of the Malice at the Palace. League needed a new great white hope, after the thug persona that was imprinted on the league after that fight.

For me the most undeserved MVP is 08 Kobe, should have went to Paul.

11 Rose should have went to Lebron.

None of Lebron's MVPs were deserved.

Allen Iverson. Rose is not a bad option either, but considering they gave it to Iverson over Shaq who was way more dominant than any other player when Rose won it...I'm going to go with Iverson.

I'll give him the first two , but after that these media hacks were just picking him outta habit. As soon as he ditched the Cavs, they torched him like a scorned Girlfriend and gave it to Rose. Despite Lebron having better stats.

my problem with the mvp award is the voters placing too much importance on themselves and making it about them

No other player besides maybe Wade in '09 would have a legitimate argument over LeBron for any of his MVP's

Rose could be the first MVP winner to not make the HOF.

I think that's a different question though. The way you phrased it in the OP, you made it sound like you were asking "who is the worst player to have won MVP?"

If it's least deserving, that's a bit tougher, since you have to gauge the competition each year, and see how a guy stacks up.

Wes Unseld in 68/69 won as a rookie averaging 13.8/18.2/2.6 on 47.5%

His team did improve by 21 games, so maybe his impact was reason enough.

Although Elvin Hayes was also a rookie and he averaged 28.4/17.1/1.4 on 44.7%.

Wilt was 21.1/20.5/4.6 on 58.3% for a team that lost just two more games than Unseld. But he had West and Baylor on his team.

I'm just suprised Unseld was considered the most valuable player that year, but maybe someone who knows can explain why that was.

Because Unseld joined a team and made a huge difference while Wilt did not..

And please stop with the stats obsession. This is not baseball.

I guess I'm asking how Unseld made a huge difference. 13.8 ppg is not normally MVP quality, particularly as a rookie. His rebounding was real good, but not league-leading. Was he playing great defense? Was he an instant leader in the locker room?

It's probably Derrick Rose.

He's the least accomplished player on that list, and as MVP seasons go, his was below average. The 10-11 Bulls won because of their defense, and he didn't lead them in that aspect of the game.

Don't get me wrong, Rose is a spectacular player at times, he's just not been as consistently spectacular as the rest of the list. Of course he's only 25, so he still has time to do more.

he was top 10 in scoring and top 15 in assists that year iirc as well as lead the bulls to the best record in the league by a comfortable margin. he earned his place.

so you're telling me all the previous mvp members were top 5 in both scoring and assists?

just face it, rose was a monster that season who put the bulls over the top to a 60+ game winning record and number one in the league. to put it in perspective, they had as many wins as the heat did when they went on their 27 game win streak.

he changed everything.

Rose was statistically pedestrian compared to most MVP winners. He won the award based on narrative, team record, and LeBron and Wade cancelling each other out.

Nash had the worst MVP seasons that I can think of. Rose will potentially have the worst career of any MVP.

People acting like Rose is finished, he's only 25 and suffered basically two freak injuries. Not too long ago they would devastating injuries that ended careers but Chris Paul has bounced back nicely from a very serious knee injury too. Let's wait and see what Rose does the rest of his career before we label him a dud :facepalm

Another thing, Rose was the biggest reason the Bulls had the best record in '11, since he's been injured, the Bulls haven't gotten close to grabbing the top seed even though the Bulls still are coached by Thibs and their defense is still one of the best in the league. Explain that.

Finally, MVP doesn't mean best player in the league, why is that so hard to understand:confusedshrug: You mean to tell me Jordan was the best player in the NBA just 5 seasons even though he has 6 rings? Shaq was the best player just once his entire career? :facepalm
