All Starting PG's With at Least 15.0 PER

(lists are only loosely matched up to see which era can match the other era player for player)

......1997..............................2014

Penny Hardaway................. Russell Westbrook
Gary Payton....................... Chris Paul
Jason Kidd......................... John Wall
Kevin Johnson.................... Steph Curry
Allen Iverson...................... Damian Lillard
Tim Hardaway.................... Kyrie Irving
John Stockton.................... Tony Parker
Sam Cassell....................... Goran Dragic
Rod Strickland.................... Mike Conley
Terrell Brandon.................. Jeff Teague
Damon Stoudamire............. Ty Lawson
Mookie Blaylock.................. Kyle Lowry
Stephon Marbury................ Derrick Rose
Nick Van Exel..................... Rajan Rondo
Kenny Anderson................. Eric Bledsoe
Mark Price......................... Jrue Holiday
Greg Anthony.................... Kemba Walker
Darrick Martin.................... Deron Williams

Pretty close imo... SF is close too (when you include bron and melo)... But looks good for 1997 considering they obliterate 2014 at SG, Center and PF.

I'd say 97 looks a little deeper at the top. A handfull more guys I'd consider B+ or better. But the current crop looks just a touch better at the bottom end. As in if I were to list them all in sequence Derrick Martin and Eric Murdock would both be at the bottom. And Kenny Anderson, who I loved, would be down pretty low too.

wouldn't rondo and stockton be quite similar? the pass-first type of PG?

I only missed Curry... Rose and Rondo hurt and missed the 16.0 PER cut... fixed the OP to include Curry.

MCW also missed the 16.0 PER cut also... many good PG's from 1997 also missed this cut.

Dragic listed as a SG on bballref... not going to bother cherry-picking on which bballref information we should change - maybe for lebron and melo, but not dragic.... plus 2014 NEEDS more SG's really really bad.

Very arbitrary and I can see the cherry picking. Curry and Dragic are both PGs. Are you trying to tell me that if Bledsoe stayed healthy, he would've been the PG? You also raised the PER from 15 to 16 to omit Rondo who despite only playing 30 games coming back from and ACL tear still averaged 12/10. And you also changed the year from 1990 to 1997

Did you read the OP??... Curry is IN there... Dragic is listed as a SG (which benefits 2014, because the SG crop is very bare).

Are you trying to tell me that if Bledsoe stayed healthy, he would've been the PG?

For the player positions, I go by what it says on bballref... Do you think it makes sense to go through 1-by-1 and change everyone's position from what it says in bballref?

Also, do you realize it goes both ways??... There are SG's that could be PG's and vice versa for 1997 as well.

You also raised the PER from 15 to 16 to omit Rondo who despite only playing 30 games coming back from and ACL tear still averaged 12/10.

The cutoff was 16 instead of 15 because there were too many players, more than when I did the SG and SF lists... I'm sorry Rondo didn't have a 16 PER..

And you also changed the year from 1990 to 1997

I didn't do PG's for 1990 because i thought it was common knowledge that 2014 had an edge on 1990 at that position.. So I did PG's for 1997 because I thought it might be a surprise at how close it is..

I could do a SG, PF, and Center one for 1997 vs 2014 as well, where 2014 gets destroyed pretty bad, just like it did at those positions vs 1990.

Dragic is a point guard.

Wow, dont compare Stockton and Rondo. Stockton was a lights-out shooter both on the field and the FT stripe. he would have scored a heck of a lot more if he didn't have the Mailman dropping all the buckets.

If you keep changing the years and criteria this entire exercise is pointless.

Well actually, all your post are pointless nostalgia boner stroking anyways...

He sure would've, but his assists would be damn near chopped in half.

What difference does it make if a comparison from a different year is done?.. It's still a valid comparison of one year versus another.

And you have to read the OP to complain about it - Curry IS included on the list.

And clearly GP is superior to all of them.
