It actually implies making a difficult, accurate pass through one or more defenders.

I have not watched much film of the older generations (pre '94), majority of my knowledge for those players is reading... a lot of reading...

That being said, Ginobili is easily the best I've seen. He's the Brett Favre of passers. It will be spectacular, whether it's bad or good, and it's often good.
