Donald Sterling... yep, dude's a racist. That's a bad thing and I personally think his views are deplorable. And the word on the street has been around for years that he's a racist so it's not a new thing. Don't watch Clippers games, don't sign with the team... or stfu. Don't pretend you didn't know unless you've never followed the NBA.

On top of all of this, the dude was forcibly stripped of something that he owned because he made some remarks behind closed doors while being unknowingly recorded... if we were all publicly outed for the things we've said behind closed doors at some point during our lives, we'd all probably be looked at as poorly or worse than the things that Sterling said...

So it's ok for Donald Sterling to lose his team while he was unknowingly recorded and was leaked to the public, but it's NOT ok to look at nude pictures of Jennifer Lawrence that she personally took that were also leaked to the public? What the hell is the difference between these scenarios except for the fact that Sterling didn't even know he was being recorded and Lawrence did? Lol.

They're both having stuff that they didn't know would be shown put out in the public arena... but what, one situation is ok and the other is not simply because you disagree with what the guy did and not what she did?

Now Ray Rice is losing his job doing what (I presume, correct me if I'm wrong) he loves because he made a poor decision and it was caught on film. Yeah, Ray Rice is stupid and it's not ok to hit a woman. I'm not defending his actions. I am, however, asserting that the way that the public is on a constant witch hunt is absolutely ridiculous and needs to stop.

Where's the outrage over her coming up to him and slapping/hitting his face/neck area while they are outside of the elevator? I don't see anyone giving a shit. Yes, he hits harder, I understand that. I don't think what he did was ok. In fact, Johnny Law needs to do something about it and if there isn't legislation offering consequences it then it needs to be drawn up.

But what the ****? Lose his job for the rest of his life? IDGAF if he's made millions. You are stripping him from doing what he loves for ONE MOMENT IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE.

I am not defending the actions or viewpoints of Sterling or Rice, and I know some of you will try to make it seem like I am, so there's not much point in me discussing this with you because you have an unchangeable viewpoint... but basically... society as a whole needs to stop being on a constant ****ing witch hunt. I feel like with the explosion of smartphones and social media, this trend has continued to increase on a yearly basis... and most times people don't even have all of the facts before making wild assumptions, accusations, and devouring whole everything the media feeds them.

Just ****ing stop it.

Hopefully you're just kidding, but if I were a racist then I'd support Rice's punishment and be taking this incident as an opportunity to talk down to black people(which would be a stupid stance to take)... but I'm not a racist, so piss off.

the worst shit by far is the Hawks owner having to sell his team. that wasnt even racist, more marketing :facepalm

society is real fukked up politically correct judgemental these days...white knights all over the place....bitches playing double standards and men hating feminists 2 centing everything...and completely dominating social media.

a lot of the social media driven issues are very selective and inconsistent to other cases that are equal or much worse. people are stupid hypocrites in general~

I couldn't care less about what Sterling said, or what Ray Rice did.

Sterling has the right to have an opinion and Rice was provoked.

Neither of these guys deserved to have their jobs and livelihood stripped away but if you tune into ESPN or any other garbage PC friendly propaganda news outlet where many of the sheep get their garbage and unrealistic opinions from, you will see these people depicted as unforgivable criminals and they subsequently get what they worked their whole life for taken away and no one even questions it.

these people are morally corrupt

Its more high profile here for obvious reasons...but that isnt even rare.

A lot of people would lose their jobs over crimes...or even being arrested and not convicted.

It isnt rare.

I agree about the fake outrage....we all know most of it is always for show.

But still....a lot of jobs that have to place you in the public eye and attempt to profit off public opinion would fire you for putting a woman to sleep on camera.

Its just good business.

Ray Rice is currently bad for any teams business.

He wasnt made to do anything. He came out saying hed sell before the email even got leaked. he clearly knew it would...and got ahead of it...but he made the decision.

That wasnt off public outrage.

Nobody is even upset. Im not...none of my friends are...I saw Wilbon on PTI saying it wasnt even that bad.

Ive seen random Atlanta rappers say it wasnt even racist. Killer Mike for one...about as anti establishment as it gets. He somewhat backed the owner...

Most everyone ive heard speak on it(whites aside of course who arent allowed to tell the truth) say it isnt even worth talking about.

He just assumed people would be outraged and got out in front of it.

People are just expected to be robots and make politically correct moves all the time... if you are in the limelight even more so. Being a famous person right now suuuucks.

agreed

anyone would lose their job if a video of them knockin a woman out went viral..

What happened to the driver who knocked the woman out on the bus??

Thats right..

No business wants to be associated with that.. Blatant racists also lose their jobs..

having a job or a career is not a right...

it isnt too much to ask employees that they refrain from knockin their wives/girlfriends out..

actually initially there were quite a few white/black people calling him racist but you're right many level headed, less PC black people have come out saying its not racist. its kind of a mixed bag. still, he would have faced some public scrutiny especially on the heels of Ferguson.

plus there is apparently some incrimination with Ferry saying that stuff about Deng people are saying is racist, especially liberal media circles that are as PC as society gets.

The people who run this country and the world love to make a huge deal out of stories that involve race, gender, sexual orientation or anything else that ends up pitting two groups of people against one another.

Why? So that they can quietly rule over the people while you have the blacks fighting against the whites, the gays against the straights, the women against the men, etc.

That is how and why you have moronic stories like this Trayvon Martin, and this Ray Rice thing get so much publicity to the point where any retard is willing to throw their measley little opinion in on it. These same sheep wouldn't even be able to tell you who Edward Snowden is or what he's done. They watch the trash mainstream media puts out and buy right into it.

The top and the bottom work in tandem to eat the middle alive. This is why birth rates are so critical. Too many babies coming from the wrong places really fukc up the social dynamic.

Is there a way to embed videos on this site? I'm not a huge George Carlin guy, but this is pretty much spot on.

The NFL can't have a guy like Ray Rice representing their product and brand. I believe what he did wasn't a mistake. It's faulty DNA. I've been in horrible arguments with my gf, but it would take something I don't have in me to reach out and strike her.

There is alot of fake outrage out there, though, and I believe that in many instances, people hold celebrities to a higher standard than they hold themselves.

I don't think the general public really cares(they are outraged but when it comes to ignoring an issue for their personal enjoyment believe that enjoyment wins out) but corporate sponsors give the public too much credit. If the league didn't make a move on Sterling, would people, players, etc. really be taking the effort to boycott

I think it would help if the punishers cut both ways too. Adam Silver could've come out and said something like:

I don't agree with the comments Donald Sterling made, but he is entitled to his own opinions. However, now that those opinions have been made public, it is not good for the NBA brand, and will by all accounts have an impact on the teams ability to function within a workforce that is 90% black. As such we have decided to remove him from his ownership position.

Doing that instead of taking the outraged moral stand would probably have let the Hawks owner from having to be thrown under the bus under some sort of zero tolerance philosophy that sort of came out of nowhere.

Yup. If a kid gets an underage when he is 15 or 16, he suddenly can't become a teacher, cop, etc. My job is client-oriented and I am subject to background checks. If I got a DUI, then I probably lose my job and struggle to find work because of a criminal history. I get sick of the TV driven moral outrage too but it isn't like Ray Rice is being unfairly treated because he is a high profile athlete.

Thorpe makes a good point. I think leagues and the media are in an awkward spot because they box themselves into zero tolerance policies as knee jerk reactions. A little deftness would be nice to see from leadership in these situations.
