:whatever: This ****boi quote in particular
But I don’t want to win at the expense of having my one of my guys get hurt. And sometimes, like I said, we’re going to sit down, me and my trainer have already sat down, already started talking about the amount of minutes Kobe should probably play, going into this season. And I have to stand fast on that. I have to make sure that when he’s up to those minutes, that’s it, no matter what the game situation is, as much as I want to win, as much as he wants to win, I’m not going to sacrifice his health to try to win games.
How’s that moment going to be like, though? Because Kobe has this intimidation thing happening for him. You’ve known him since he was a kid, but he’s a guy that’s won five titles, he’s considered one of the greatest of all time…How do you ‘stand fast,’ as you say?
Well, first thing, I ain’t never been intimidated by anybody, so that won’t be a problem. But he’ll have to know from me, and I’ll tell him afterwards, when I say, ‘No, you can’t go in,’ I love him as a person, I love him as a player, and again I’m not going to sacrifice his body just to try to win a game.
I understand the need to limit minutes, but if boy healthy let him play, we only got 2 years left, don't wanna see the gawd on the bench at all.
He just seems like he's tryna come off as this tough guy, I know what I'm doing type coach. You mean to tell me if the Lakers are trailing in the fourth, he's gonna keep Kobe out of the game? :kobe:
I give it until late November before the "Fire Byron" post

Don't worry, mayne.
Kobe will have the same mind set with Scott as he did with D'Antoni.
slight chuckle...."like coach Scott is gonna tell me when to come out of the game"

Just play him. If he wants to be on the court, he wants to be on the court. His health after his career is his own problem. He's not getting paid all those millions to warm the bench.

D'Antoni probably wanted to play Bryant as much as possible. D'Antoni didn't play a lot of guys, instead playing his core players for tons of minutes.

Typical Lakers "fans". Kobe first, team second -- always.
He's gonna rest Kobe to keep him fresh. People wanted 40 minutes of Kobe last year and he couldn't even last 6 games.

The thing is, the only way LA is a playoff team is if Bryant is the same player he was pre-injury and he drags them there. If Scott keeps him under 30 minutes per game to save him for the playoffs they won't make the playoffs.

If LA's goal this year is making the playoffs, their management is misguided.
Good for Scott. Somebody has to yank Kobe when he starts jogging back on D

Their management probably is "misguided," because after you hand Bryant that mammoth retirement package what can your goal be? I don't think he's going to be the player he was before he started getting hurt but he's not going to accept a tanking season.

Exactly. Kobe's 52 years old and these nikkas act like he's still in his prime.

Well this will be fun to watch at least. Especially throwing in Swaggy P as comic relief

From April of 2013.
"Although Bryant playing nearly 48 minutes may be a necessity with the season nine days from expiration, there is a fine line between Bryant controlling his own playing time and Bryant being instructed to play maximum minutes during the Lakers

Byron Scott will be gone within 3 years anyway, I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe the next coach in the post-Kobe era will actually be decent.

Byron Scott has known Kobe since he was 17. There have been games Kobe came off the bench...behind Byron Scott. They have history....enough that I suspect this works itself out without much if any beef.

if the lakers arent in the playoff picture. and theyre losing close games with kobe on the bench cause hes at his "minute cap"
expect a quick trade demand to either chicago or new york

No way.
1) There won't be any such demand
2) There wouldn't be any takers anyway

Fisher? Maybe. Phil? I don't think so. At any rate, no such thing is going to happen. Kobe is retiring as a Laker. This year, next year, 4 years from now... doesn't matter.

not if scott is telling kobe to sit down during close games
i think he would literally call mitch from the bench and tell him to fire him before the game ended. that or trade him

If TD and Dirk can still perform well despite reduced minutes, I don't see why Kobe can't. The guy's a grandfather in NBA years.

And I suspect Mitch would tell him(in kinder words) what they probably told Shaq in 04....
"What makes you think you have power? Being our future 8 years ago?"
The Lakers said they wouldnt even ask Kobes opinion on the coaching search. They dont have to bend over backwards for a guy headed out the door shortly.

Exactly. Before I judge a coach that hasn't even coached his first game, i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. He's not going to keep Kobe off the floor during the 4th due to minute caps (at least after they establish this) if he's smart. He'll have Kobe's minutes mapped out so that he can play at the end of the game. Now OT...that's another story.
Most coaches are smart enough to manage their players minutes wile playing them at a crucial time. It's a lot better than two seasons ago where Kobe injured himself and all of his hard work to get into the playoffs meant nothing because he was out and there was a first round exit.

lol the lakers just gave kobe 25 mill
LA is very loyal to kobe still
and in 2004 the lakers had kobe to replace shaq to fill the stadium
right now there is no kobe back up
they will still do anything and everything in their power to make kobe happy. trust me. i wouldnt be surprised if they offered kobe another 25 mill 2-3 year extension after this one is up

If this was true why did they hire D'antoni over Phil 2 years ago? Ever since Phil left they haven't let Kobe have any influence in any of the 3 coaches they have hired.

It's not the reduced minutes jackass, I acknowledged that, it's the way he's saying, sounds so forced, what kind of coach says he won't put in his hall of fame player despite the game situation if he played in the allotted minutes that he set out for him

lol @ people thinking scott has anything to do with kobe's playing time. kobe will play when he wants to play, he is basically the king of LA until he is officially retired lol. if kobe wants to play, then nobody can stop him. he has more control on the management then the coach lol

because as much as jim likes kobe. jim likes jerry more since... jerry is jims father. and it was his last wish to return the lakers to run and gun 80's ball
:lol
plus pjax ****ed jims sister. and we all know jim has a crush on jeanie.
but other than that theyve been pretty much at kobes hand and feet
The training staff, Kobe and the coaching staff will monitor it as the season goes along.. What they decide to do in training camp isn't the same as what they do in December or what they'll be doing at the end of the season...
Nothing is set in stone it'll be fluid throughout the season depending on how Kobe's feeling and how the team is doing...
they'll also watch his minutes in practice and make adjustments on back to backs

This is a bit of an overreaction. If games are coming down to the wire, theres no doubt Scott will let Kobe finish the game out. Where youll see Kobe sitting often is most likely going to be near the final minutes of the opening quarters (1 and 3) and probably close to 40% of the 2nd and 4th.
Even phil went with this approach after the lakers 2peat. He tried to keep kobe playing 30-33 minutes a game. and didnt make him participate in all practices. expect more of the same.
