Mccain's wrong tho. if we had supported the previous pre ISIS moderates against Assad, those extremists would still have eventually had the residual fighters/weapons even if they were successful in taking out Assad. You cant say thata `00% because its too much of a what if, but i'd bet that would have been the outcome.

Either way i don't think Mccain guilt tripping Obama's decision to pull out of Iraq and not arm/support the Syrian rebels is accurate.

there needs to be ground troops of some sort to stabilize things first hand. air strikes in themselves can't do that. we're not sending our own troops in. not saying i really agree with that since i'm sure extremists will get their hands on those weapons but i'm cool with it so long as we don't give them heavy arms.

If McCain was president any time over the past 10 years, I'm pretty sure he would have reinstated the draft. I wouldn't mind serving but still.... the guy is pretty ludicrous at times with his military opinions.

These moderate rebels are dumb they fight amongst each other instead of fighting Assad.To late Obama arming these rebels won't change the tide of removing Assad. Finally Bombing isis even though that is late too.

It will not happen overnight, but I can assure the American public that, in time, this group will be defeated, allowing us to focus our attention on the countless threats to homeland security posed by its many immediate successors.”

Obama added that while the ISIS campaign will not involve American boots on the ground, he reserves the right to deploy troops should one or more of the spin-off cells grow to be even more powerful
