Outside of the one handed tomahawk he does 90% of the time, lebrons dunks consist of:
- Alley-oop
- And sometimes a windmill

his dunks are pretty boring these days.
hes done that 1 handed tomahawk dunk like 2000 out of 2300 career dunks
and the other 300 are alleyoop 2 handed safety dunks
plus he hasnt been able to get up like he used to. i remember on cleveland he almost did a full on free throw line dunk
he cant come close to doing that anymore

yea that's when he was crazy with it. Its too bad that he was too puhcee to enter the slam dunk contests. I was upset because I actually wanted to give him a chance back then but he showed his true colors of being a bitch.

Doesn't have a whole lot of variety..but his dunks are so damn explosive/powerful it doesn't matter. It's like Karl Malone dunking with Nate Robinson's athleticism..
I will say, the one thing I respect about James Harden's game is that his dunks are like a left handed lite-version of Lebron's dunks.

kobe is a way better in game dunker ( and dunk contest dunker by default i guess )
kobe does
- 1 handed tomahawk
- 1 handed windmill ( full extension )
- 1 handed 360
- 2 handed 360
- alley oop 1 hand
- alley oop 2 hand
- double pump reverse
- 2 handed cradle
- behind the back gather 360
- off backboard self pass alley oop
- reverse baseline windmill
- reverse baseline 180
- hammer no look behind head
- 2 handed behind head pump
- also left handed for half of these dunks*
and in the dunk contest he did a between the legs to cap it off
and invented the elbow dunk and behind the back 360 ( not done in games )
and many more i'm sure
kobe in terms of creativity is leaps and bounds ahead of lebron

Sorry, but you're wrong. When Kobe retires no when will ever remember him as being a great dunker. He will be remembered for being able to make difficult shots, but not great dunks.

Frobe is a clear top 10 in-game dunker imo..and at his absolute best has a case for top 5 behind Vince, Nique, MJ, Dr J. Very underrated athletically back then, and unparalleled creativity.

Leave his stacked Heat team and goes back to the league's laughing stock franchise, allowing Wade and Bosh to shine on their own and prove just how good they still are.

His dunks are a great display of raw athleticism, but he doesn't wow me with courage on his dunks the way Jordan used to. I've pointed this out on ISH multiple times before, but MJ didn't care who you were - if you were in his way, you were getting put on a highlight reel. He played in an era that was stacked with defensive bigs and he threw it down repeatedly on nearly all of them (and in spectacular fashion). LeBron's best dunks are on Damon Jones and Jason Terry.
That to me, more than the dunk contest bs, is what points to LeBron having a lack of courage. Great dunkers should have the drive to meet their opponent at the top of the mountain and conquer the challenge. LeBron doesn't do that though, he feasts on easy opportunities and looks to capitalize on those as much as possible - probably because, on some level, he is aware of his aforementioned lack of courage.
As far as the dunk contest though, I've never had a problem with it. The dunk contest has been played out for many years. It used to be interesting, but I think after the VC era, there was nothing left to prove. Vince perfected it and brought it to a level that no one else was gonna reach, and now we have stupid shit like Dwight's Superman cape and Blake jumping over a Kia. It's not about dunking anymore, it's about who can come up with a clever gimmick. With the dunk contest being played out, should LeBron join to try and breathe life back into it? I say no. There's a shitty bar around the corner from my house. Mostly miserable older people hang out there. Maybe I could get a group of friends to start going there with me and put some more energy into it. We could make it cool again, play good music, get the place good and loud/rowdy, have some fun times there... or we could just ignore it and go somewhere else. That shitty bar is like the modern dunk contest.
"Boring"? "One dunk only"? "Courage on his dunks as Jordan"? Haha... Come on man..... he jumps from so far distance and high up sometimes looking down into the rim (sometimes even flying literally clearing players, see Lucas), cocks the ball way back and then smashes it down with the fury of an angry xenomorph and just before that he used his great ballhandling to slither away from defenders for the finish...... how the hell does that get old? Can it get old? Hell no.... shit like that only you dream of doing ingame....
Lebron instills massive fear and loathing on defenders as a ingame dunker, have you ever seen any ingame dunker in NBA history have interior defenders just move out the way so much? Anytime Lebron dials in his running takeoff of that "bionic left leg" (as Vince Carter calls him/it) as a defender (no matter who you are) you either move out of the way, try to take a charge or foul him/flagrant foul him, but you dont contest unless you want to be in a poster.... this is because nobody has yet been able to block Lebron when he fully takes off up there, its impossible unless you time your hand in there when he is coming down from the sky possibly goaltending....
Unlike Jordan or Kobe.... Lebron not only gets up higher than them, but if contested he has also the much bigger strength to either bump into your body (pushing YOU back) and stuff it in anyways or very least lay it in, AND1.... if not then he has the power to stuff your freakin arm inside the rim with the ball..... you just move out of the way, take the charge or foul/flagrant foul him..... the only time you can block Lebron is when he is not running in for a full take off....

Of the top of my head Lebron has dunked on:
Zo
Young J. O'Neal
Prime Duncan
And just last season Dwight Howard and Ibaka, who is arguably the best shot blocker in the nba...and Lebron did it with a broken nose.
But, I agree with you that he needs to challenged more bigs. I think Lebron thinks too much on the court sometimes. He's thinking about making the best possible play instead of just taking the chance of just throwing down on someone.

You only proved that LeBron dunks are powerful. That's it. I don't get the quotations in the beginning of the post. Yes, he's still boring, and yes, he pretty much does the same dunk over and over.

Tell me one dunk Lebron hasn't done in a game which most of the other all time great dunkers have done? I'm not talking about style, or aesthetics of the dunker, I want to know what dunk we haven't seen in a game from him yet since he always does the same dunk?

He's done almost every dunk once, as did most of the other good-great Dunkers in the league. Doesn't say anything. Shaq's done a ****ing 360 in the game. :confusedshrug:

I haven't seen most of the other good-great dunkers in the league do between the legs dunk.
I haven't seen them do this kind of alleyoop either:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wzo4_KGL8Q
Or leftie windmill (alleyoop or after the miss/off the backboard):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBmKZRhlhwM
Also your example with Shaq and 360 dunk is pretty weak, once you can get comfortably above the rim with your hands, 360 dunk is one of the easier dunks to do even for players with huge bodies...

Yeah, that's why we see a 360 more commonly during games.
When was the last times someone done it? PG's 360 windmill? 360's are hard, especially during games.
A between the legs dunk? When? Didn't that happen in high school? :oldlol:
And those links you posted are like.. Borderline good, tbh. None of those actually wow'd me. Sure, MAYBE nobody's done them (but maybe somebody has, too lazy to look them up), but they don't look like anything Gerald Green, JRich, Carter, TMac, Kobe, Mason, Griffin, etc can't do.

Interesting how you say this:

and then you post this and compare Lebron to the best/elite dunkers of our generation:
but they don't look like anything Gerald Green, JRich, Carter, TMac, Kobe, Mason, Griffin, etc can't do.
And yea, 360 dunk is one of the easier dunks to perform once you can get your hands above the rim quite easily. It's not the safest dunks that's why you rarely see them in game but that doesn't mean it's equally as hard as windmill or between the legs or something similar.
Look here Hansbrough doing a 360, but I don't imagine him doing a proper windmill or between the legs or anything like that:

Nope these are not good-great dunkers. Those are elite of the elite dunkers for the last 20 years. I'm not backpedalling I was very accurate with my posting that's why I posted this:

Good-great dunkers for me are players like Westbrook, Wade, Rose, Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace,... for example players like George, Deandre, Terrence Ross are great dunkers for me but not elite of the elite dunkers or top of the cream like players you mentioned and compared Lebron to them.

Fair enough. I'll find my share of videos of these said players then.
Has LeBron done anything remotely similar this (http://youtu.be/HDL-tuJMQvw?t=2m49s) even? Off both legs? To me, that's harder than a running, gather windmill that he and J Smoove typically do.

Do you mean just similar to the Westbrook's windmill or also other dunks afterwards? If just windmill:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD6k3ZXUnQo
Why would windmill off both legs be harder? For a 2 foot-leapers(Jordan, Carter, Griffin, Westbrook,...) it's easier to do that than a running one legged windmill. For one legged leapers(Lebron, James White, Josh Smith,..) it's vice versa since they get up higher jumping off 1 leg.
Having said that it's waste of our time to continue this debate since it leads nowhere. We will just end up posting a ton od youtube vids and wasting too much usefull time doing that. I'm out.
BTW, J.R. Smith for me is a great dunker! Forgot about him...

Dwight wasn't going up for the block... neither was Duncan, he stood with his arms straight up trying to take a charge... honestly, the ones on Ibaka and Alonzo are the only LEGIT posters I've seen him put on big men. By legit posters, I mean the shot blocker actually leaves the floor attempting to go for the block, and LeBron stuffs it on him anyway. Ibaka's was even an asterisk because he didn't actually DUNK the ball, he just kinda threw it in from above.
I really, really hope he dunks on Hibbert this year. Like a dramatic dunk. Something that haunts Hibbert until his dying breath. Stupid verticality abusing garbage Hibbert...

You're right about Dwight and Duncan not going up for the block, but do you think this common with Lebron? It's like players are scared to even attempt to block his dunks. Add Garnett from the playoffs to that list of players who just stand there. Come to think of it there is a handful of "opportunities" that players passed up to try to block Lebron's dunks. I remember young PHX Amare had a couple of chances to contend but backed out.
Side note: I think this is the mentality of the players today to "not" attempt a block.
Also, I'm dreaming of a Hippert poster too!!!

You know, that's actually pretty good point. I think there's a little of both going on... when a good shot blocker is in position, LeBron probably doesn't go for it - but when he's attacking with a head of steam, there are probably a lot of guys who don't even bother trying. Still, it's undeniable that Jordan was leagues beyond at posterizing defenders. He just seemed to do it so often.

I agree that Jordan has A TON more posters than Lebron, but here is something to think about. In Jordan's time, 80's and early 90's, the shot blockers didn't really care if they got dunked on. They contested EVERYTHING. Flashforward to today's culture, and most shot blockers don't want to get dunked on. Too much ego, they don't want to end up on SC top ten. Getting killed on social media. I bet if Lebron played in Jordan's time he would have just as many posters. And in Jordan played in today's game he would have as many. No fault to Jordan or Lebron, just the culture has changed.

Except this guy who Lebron has had multiple chances to dunk on in the regular season and playoffs the last 2 years but always seems to get intimidated at the last second. It's like this every single time he sees Hibbert in the paint. Any other uber-athletic swingman has an opening like that and Hibbert is getting embarrassed.
