View Full Version : Why is flopping considered bad?

Flopping was never considered bad when people like Magic and Laimbeer threw their hands up and acted like they got shot. Only recently has flopping been brought upon a bad light. But why?
If flopping works, then why stop doing it? It gives the person who flops an advantage by getting calls that they shouldn't have. As such, flopping helps wins games. So what if its aesthetically unpleasing if its winning games?
Personally, I'd rather win a game then lose a game, js

I don't like seeing it in the game once it got to the level of soccer. That is, once it became blatant. It's one thing to sell contact when the player thinks they were fouled. It's another to fake being fouled with dramatic falling to the floor. It's embarrassing for the game. I hate it, except that it's also comedic.
Come on man, soccer.

Integrity of the game. I am watching sports, not a movie. Stop acting.

Thats not really true either, its just I would assume most people that don't like flopping despise the fact that the face of the league flops
I think flopping falls on the thin line between entertainment and competition- it is horrible to watch but helps wins games, kind of like a worse version of hack-a-shaq

Why is it frowned upon when you act like you got hit when you didn't?

Can you elaborate on that? Isn't winning, in the end, the most important thing? Or is that being aesthetically pleasing and entertaining is more important?

It's another to fake being fouled with dramatic falling to the floor. It's embarrassing for the game.I am in agreement. I am sometimes understanding of selling legitimate illegal contact being perpetrated by a defender. However, even then, I have my limits. I have absolutely no tolerance for the outright faking of contact (ex: holding one's eye when the eye was never hit). At that point, I find it to be in extremely poor taste, lacking in both integrity and sportsmanship.

It takes away from the integrity of the game. I'm ok with selling a call. We're taught to take charges from the beginning. That's part of the game. Selling some shit that didn't happen is just wrong. I understand doing whatever to help your team win. I get that. It just messes with the integrity of the sport I love.

op, i cant believe that you're seriously asking this question. for that, i think you're a *aggot. but ill answer your question.
as many others have already said, it ruins the integrity of the game. it makes the game ugly. no one wants to see that *hit. it brings down the quality of the product. you're not winning the game by playing the game, you're winning the game by tricking the refs. thats bad sportsmanship. it makes you look like a *itch. no one wants to play with *itches or watch *itches play.

OP is known to only have sex with people after they've passed out from drinking/drug use because traditional seduction is too difficult, and "winning at all cost" is the ultimate goal.

There's a difference between selling contact, and faking contact. Too many players straight up fake contact these days.

...Yeah.
To seriously answer the question, your logic is flawed.
You could replace "flopping" by
taking illegal substances
corrupting the referee
sleeping with the opponent's wives
hiring an assassin to kill the other team's best player
etc.
and your post would have the same meaning...
Twisted thinking.

This. If winning is all that matters why not poison the other team before the game? Is that ok?
