Uncontrolled screaming

Can somebody tell me approximately when it became common for players to scream like they're getting butchered when they go for the layup and there is just a little bit of contact or no contact at all? When did that act became acceptable and was not a sign of a soft player or a pssy ass player anymore?

I always thought this uncontrolled screaming was like a "kiai" like in traditional martial arts.

it's like those idiots at the gym who grunt and scream when performing reps with standard weight. they just never had a dad around to beat them with a switch when they were being obnoxious and now that they are grown people are too scared to tell them to stfu.
