Amare. Better peak, better player. Kemp didn't even register on the MVP radar, Amare finished top 10 three times. Amare has 1x All-NBA time, 4x All-NBA 2nd team compared to Kemp 3x All-NBA 2nd team. Competition plays a factor there and while it doesn't hold much weight both have the same number of All-Star app.

Kemp averaged above 19 points twice, once for only 42 games. His first 5 years his total averages were 14/9. Amare in his prime was a beast and while he never made the finals like Kemp, wasn't like he didn't have any playoff success.

I'll take the guy who didn't do this on D.

Both are usually overrated due to nostalgia/few great powerful dunks.

Though, Amare was probably more special.

Amare is by far the better offensive player but kemp was by far better on d and wasnt bad as a scorer while amares defensive awareness is pretty shoddy, so I'd take kemp.

Combine Amare's offense with Kemp's defense and you've got a force. I give the slight nod to Stoudemire though.

Does anyone think though that Kemp was slightly held back offensively by George Karl's system in Seattle as he developed into an All-Star there, or was it just a case of him simply being who he was numbers-wise?

Peak wise, Amare was more dominant in terms of alpha dog ability. At one point, I think Dirk and Amare were the best PF's in the WORLD in terms of takeover scoring ability in that great 2000s era of PF's. While Duncan and KG to me were tied as FLAT OUT the best PF's in the WORLD in that great era. Kemp was a better all around player than Amare though. Career wise, both of them had premature ends to their prime years.

Prime Amare might take the (very) slight edge on offense, but Kemp was better overall, and obviously the better 2-way player.

People forget that Kemp was a great defensive player. Payton played such great D that Kemp's was often over-looked. Kemp was really the anchor of those Seattle teams though.

Kemp was easily better. Phoenix might have stolen a championship if you replaced Amare with Shawn on those stacked Phoenix teams.

It's a little hard to tell just how much of the scoring difference is the pace and nature of those Suns teams, but overall I'd say Amare was just a more well rounded scorer than Kemp. And while Kemp was a better defender, we're not talking total difference maker at that end. So I'd take Amare.
