who here does it?

how did you start and progress or regress?

got any stories?

I just came off a 5K+ run the past hour playing on Pokerstars; that's my record of any single run. It took about 7+ hours and I was just catching my outs, sucking people out left and right. Feels good but it's mentally exhausting. I went outside for a smoke after and the world was 2D.

I remember in my town, the government sports bet set the odds on the 08 Celtics as a 3.35:1 underdog to the 22 win streak Rockets. I should have gone to a loan shark that morning but I was only in college.

Got into it once and won thousands but didn't quit.

You should quit and cash out because you won't get a run like that.

Start again when you run out of that money so at least you can use it for something good.

I know what its like to play 8 hours of poker a day making money. The gambling world is a dark place even if you are good enough to win. I rather stay out of it than to feel like shit.

I feel you Nathan.

I use to play 40-70 hours a week during college in the casinos. It was menacing to the brain.

but it's not a dark place. I met and networked with a lot of nice and useful people which benefited me outside the poker room. It's kind of like a neighborhood bar. Eventually the faces become familiar.

unless you are truly talented

bank roll management in poker, sports bets, is a lot tougher than people proclaim it to be for becoming a professional at it.

after you won 5k. don't be afraid to cash out early on your next run when your think its come to an end.

because now, you can afford it.

Agreed.

I acknowledge that it was just pure luck and a little skill. I was hardly missing any draws and my big hands stood up for the most part. I took a few losses early on but they were in the micro stakes which emotionally prompted me to ante up and play bigger. Eventually, 25c blinds turned into 10$ blinds which gladly doesn't make me too uncomfortable. After all, you can't think of your chips as money but as tools.

Placed a few sportbets on NBA for this season both champion and eastern conference.

Bulls 100 dollars to win title 850

Warriors 10 dollars to win title 260

Okc 30 to win title 195

And bulls winner EC 30 to win 105

Outlay 170

Cash out please.

You are not going to get high runs like that on a software-style gaming. It is equivalent to playing computer slots except you got your hands and suckered everyone into it. The next victim will be you and another guy will be making the same thread elsewhere. They distribute the wealth around and collect the juice. They don't favor anyone because to keep everyone happy.

I have a few friends that play tournaments and sit n go tourneys on Pokerstars or Fulltilt and have consistently been getting gains. On average they are breaking 30$/hour each with one or two huge 4 or 5 digit gains. However, they warn me it's terribly boring clicking a button all day despite the ease.

I'm pretty damn good picking winners. But I'll never put money on it. Then I'm not having fun watching sports, I'm worried about the money. I was never a gambling fan.

I guess the key with sports betting is to always bet within your limit so you dont feel too horrible losing.

I had some fun nights watching my bets go down the drain due to buzzer beaters. The odds screamed bet all day and I was pretty certain of my bets; however.... Lebron..... and Bosh.... ughk.

If you gamble too much yes

Sports betting is great. If you bet too much though then yes, you spend more time worrying about your money instead of enjoying the game. I'll often have a small bet on neutral games, makes watching it that much more exciting when you have a team to cheer for. I never bet on the teams I follow though, too much emotion comes into my choice.

I've talked about this before, but my friend and I ran a small sports book back in the day for about 8 years or so. Mainly pro and college football. We'd take some basketball, mostly college, and a little baseball, but the action was so spotty outside of the NCAA tournament we really didn't take very much.

We wound up getting burnt by a few people, and in spite of other forms of retribution, there was no making up for the money. We had a few excellent seasons. Never really lost. But didn't make enough to make it worth it when three or four people burnt us that last season.

We also wound up having one guy who went so heavy that he just skewed the whole board. And over the years he got better and better. So it sort of just became us with a ten percent advantage while he got to pick the games.

And collecting got harder and harder over the years as our clientelle kept getting referred from referrals until we realized we hardly knew a lot of these guys.

It is a weird world to be in. We wound up friendly with a lot of larger local guys. One guy just killed himself last year. We both still play. We both joined up to online sites, but neither of us liked it much. We wound up hooking up with a local guy. I don't play often anymore, but when I do it's usually pretty heavy. I've been in Vegas a few times to do futures. I like team win over unders. Odds to win divisions and the such. I'd do baseball and basketball and particularly pro football.

Cards I also like. Especially poker. Again, I like the social aspect of it too much to have ever gotten heavily into online play. There's a handfull of local games that I used to play in regualarly, but now only occasionally. I also play at the casino every couple of months. We're actually doing a big poker tournament for my friend's brother's bachelor party.

Overall, with a pretty long life gambling, I'm definitely up. But I know that puts me in the minority. And I know from the long lines of people I watched lose while taking action myself.

Started playing poker in 08'. I started off playing both cash game and tournaments. I was awful and lost a lot of money. Took me some time, but I have become a substantial winning player in live cash games. I have made 30k of supplemental cash per year for the last 3 years playing cash games at local casinos. Its been awesome bc players still suck at poker and pay out money. And I still have a job and I dont rely on this for income so its all extra. I also still play some tournaments, I won 70k in a live tourney in 2012 but those take so long so i play them less.

I use 5dimes for sports betting. I've had two big wins in my career.

I put $50 on Rafael Nadal to win Wimbledon in 2008, it paid $250.

I put $40 on the Giants to win the Super Bowl in 2012 mid-season when they were 5-5, paid $700.

About 700-800 per year. It varies from month to month. Put in a lot of hours in Vegas during WSOP

I dont really gamble online, but from Bovada seems to be the most credible site out there. You can play poker, sports bet and play table games. Many people I talk to have had withdrawals come through without a hitch. There are fees for depositing, not sure if you can get around this on a credible site

Played poker professionally for about half a decade playing both live and online, did some betting in various fields when the timing was right as well.
Definitely one of the most unique lifestyles not going to work but competing every day against others, always being up or down for the day, the month, the year etc.

I work for a very big online gambling company now, funny where life takes you sometimes.

i actually have an account there, and have withdrawn in the past without problems.

the reason i ask is because they charge 5% to deposit money. im looking for a good sportsbook where i can deposit for free. that has to exist somewhere, right?

Can't remember what info is needed, I believe any VISA card will work, not sure if they accept Mastercard. Last time I withdrew I had to do initiate the withdrawal on a Monday between 9am and 1pm to avoid any fees, not sure if they have the same policy. But they have an online chat so it's easy to get answers to any questions you have.

And sometimes they charge a very small amount on a deposit, for example you deposit $80 and you are charged $80.53. Check to see if your debit/credit card has a foreign transaction fee as well, they aren't usually too bad maybe $3-5 but some credit cards don't have any.
