This has become the new fauxhawk.
Where did this current trend originate? I mean recently, not the actual Japanese origin.
Personally not a fan.

Can't pic from my tablet. Can someone post an example?

Which look? A bun or the undercut with a topknot like the pic above a la Miley Cyrus?

Both. With the big, fake bun on top being the mount everest of trashy hairstyles.

Topknots were common with the Samurai class prior to the Meiji Era in Japan. Once Japan industrialized topknots were cut off and the samurai went extinct. So they are bringing back old hair styles. What's next the Manchu hairstyle the queue. A couple years back they brought back the mohawks. People were expressing their Native American pride everywhere.

I've at least gotta respect the fact that someone has to grow out their hair for a long time to use that look. Takes a lot more dedication than the fauxhawk.

That's how I wore my hair when I played in college and my senior year of high school. Although I did have it braided for a short period.

Now of course I'm bald.

Looks horrible on any man not in a Sumo match or wearing a Samurai outfit. You can put this hairstyle somewhere in between the comb over and the mullet, in terms of ugliness.

What I hope is that douchey parents don't subject their children to this.

My little cousin goes to school with a couple of Indian boys who wear these huge top knots over their heads. Not sure whose choice that was, parents or kid, but I got to admit it takes serious balls to wear that hair style in a public American school.

People do way worse stuff with how they dress their kids.

^you dress your kid like that and his chances of being an insufferable douche go up by 75%

Lol, I was one of those dads. My kids when he was 4 I'd throw up the faux hawk and Bape sweater thinking it was adorable. I look back on those pics and cringe about how cruel I was
