Eight members of a team trying to raise awareness about Ebola have been killed by villagers using machetes and clubs in Guinea, officials say.

Some of the bodies - of health workers, local officials and journalists - were found in a septic tank in a village school near the city of Nzerekore.

Correspondents say many villagers are suspicious of official attempts to combat the disease.

The team disappeared after being pelted with stones by residents when they arrived in the village of Wome - in southern Guinea, where the Ebola outbreak was first recorded.

A journalist who managed to escape told reporters that she could hear villagers looking for them while she was hiding.

Unless Ebola mutates, it is highly unlikely it would spread in a developed, educated nation. Plus there are already drugs which are seemingly very effective against it.

if u watched it you'll see those aid workers that caught it who were sent home, and their procedures. thing is they have no idea how they got it. they swore their procedure in terms of safeguarding themselves and inspection were tight. there was a lady iin charge of suiting them up and she swore they were all safeguarded. and yet all 3~ of them caught it.

i KNEW there was more shit to this than it "only being contagious thru bodily fluids"....these mf'ers know how serious Ebola is more than anybody, you all don't think they're taking the greatest precautions not to catch it? they're in full doctor suits too completely covered and masked but still caught it. they were so sure they were protected that when the first one was at home for a day sick with Ebola symptoms they seriously thought it was something else because of how protected they knew they were.

Its only contagious after symptoms appear and the symptoms are obvious.
It is not air borne and needs fluid contact to spread, (eg blood, saliva, sweet, etc)

Africa combines medical ignorance of the general population and extremely underfunded medical infrastructure.

I dont think in most countries people would be raiding an ebola ward to steal the blood soaked blankets.

When a person dies of ebola, only trained medical personal in protective clothing should handle the bodies. That is when the Ebola virus is most contagious and when most people contract it. Unfortunately African tradition is for the family to wash the dead and prepare the body for burial thus spreading ebola.

Ebola can spread through sweat and saliva.
Perhaps they were talking to an African they thought didnt have ebola and hugged them, or shook their hand or any number of different scenarios and rubbed their eyes or picked something out of their teeth, or whatever before washing their hands.

Perhaps one of the workers spraying down the tools did a poor job. I highly doubt the particular ebola strain in africa right now is spread through the air.

There are lots of simple human errors that could have caused their infection rather than the virus being air borne.
