I've been 21 for awhile and I'm wondering, how is the bar scene?

I haven't had time to get around to it and this week, I was planning on going to a bar (probably on Thursday night). Is the bar scene actually worth trying out? I live in a big city atm.

The gay bars down here are pretty dead, so I usually just kick it with family on the weekends.
