It could be any of those or all. Post your experiences and how you feel. I am wondering about the benefits you get for giving those up.

No mental benefits. I do it for the physical benefits.

I used eat junk food, and drinks sodas all the time in elementary and middle school. I was a fat lard who would play the PS2 all day. I used to be a little overweight up until the 7th grade... that's when I started taking care of my body and made sure I ate right. In high school I would smoke cigars or weed at least 3-4 times a week. It was too much. Once I entered 10th grade, I cut down on that stuff and started playing sports for my school. Today, at 25, I still smoke from time to time and eat junk food but definitely not as much as I used to. I'd say I smoke weed maybe 2-3 times a month. I eat some of my junk food (cookies, chips, sodas, etc) once or twice a week. Overall, my body feels good and im in great shape since I cut down. And also, yeah I post a lot on here but I still get my work done and stay in shape.

Rambo, don't expect any mental benefits.

I knew you wouldn't be able to stick with the Paleo diet. You're not cut out for it.

I haven't had sugar ever since I started the diet. No sodas and fast food either. I am not only enjoying the physical benefits but the mental as well. My overall sense of well being is incredible: I don't crave food, I always want to exercise, I don't have a bad day, and all the symptoms I used to have (heart burn, chest pains, itching, etc.) are all gone. I was just wondering about the experiences of others.

Again, this is another positive thread I am starting. If other posters see what the benefits are, maybe they'll cut out those foods as well.

Well for starters you don't feel like your killing yourself any more. Your body feels better everyday. It spills into work, school, whatever. Everything comes easier.

Eating healthy you can FEEL it. You get energy, your mood is great, your body feels great.

Eating junk food, you get itis and your body shuts down. You feel the cramps, lack of energy, etc. And it's psychological because you no you did your body no good.

I quit smoking 5 weeks ago. First week I felt like crap. Second week I was depressed. Third and 4th week I was sick and depressed. This week I feel awesome  . Apart from being able to breath better, WAY more energy, walking comes easier, i smell better. I just feel calm and collected emotionally. Smoker anxiety for that cigarette is gone. I wouldn't trade that for anything. Plus I got my teeth cleaned, and whitened that shit. I'm looking sexier everyday. Not letting cigarettes ruin that.

My next thing to work on is jerkin off less

I think your a piece of shit Iramble24/7, but if you want to personally develop then I support you. What are you waiting for? Envision who you want to be and bridge the gap staring now.

Did you go cold turkey or e-cigs?

Cold turkey. You have to 100% want to quit though because it wasn't easy. Week 3/4 my allergies were out of control, then I caught a really bad cold. I felt like shit for a good month physically/mentally. This week however I feel good. Best i've felt in 7 years to be honest, i'm smoke, alcohol, drug free and it's so great

I still crave a smoke sometimes i.e. when i was at the beach the other day and saw a dude smoking. It's "moments" like those that I suspect i'll crave for the rest of my life to be honest. But once again, emotionally I just feel very great and calm 24/7. Smoking was making me very anxious and i felt disgusting. You can't tell as a smoker, but once you quit you'll realize how disgusting of a habit it was and you'll deeply regret it, so do yourself a favor and quit. Just do it. Right now. Be bold. I did it, so can you.

you probably won't feel any different

but it's how people look at you.

and you're a self-conscious type of person

So there is no difference between a person who smokes and someone who doesn't?

I've never smoked, you'd have to be a ****ing retard to start smoking cigarettes in this day and age. I don't like soda, it's one of the most over rated things going and I've never given up eating junk food. I just eat it in moderation.

if you don't mind constantly upsetting your social groups as you change social groups

then I guess there might not be any difference

Switching to vaping (over smoking) was one of the best decisions I ever made. I wish I could go back to that first week again. I felt really great, mentally but then also physically. My lung capacity came back very quickly, within one week. Blowing out the smells of either cherry or banana nut bread, instead of cigarette smoke. It was a great time :P

so you too, dislike having your lung capacity being shrunken as well as the smell of smoke?

I didn't like the perception of the smell of smoke. Personally... I guess it didn't bother me too much at the time. But I didn't like how my friends disliked it, and I started to become really self-conscious about it. I was worried that everyone I met thought I smelled gross. I guess society pressure got to me in that case.

I hated the lung capacity because I played basketball and would be winded too quickly. Then, feeling kind of tired just walking up a flight of stairs. I didn't like where all that was going. lol. But both of those things went away within 1 week - 2 weeks of vaping.

you must love basketball.

because that's just proof of what you'd be willing to do just not to be winded while playing basketball.

you'd be willing to switch from smoking to vaping.

imagine that.

A few years prior, I had quit smoking cold turkey for 6 months. Basketball was the only reason I was able to quit. I reasoned that because I generally didn't smoke while playing basketball anyway, I could avoid nicotine cravings if I just lived at the court. I was playing basketball (usually alone) for 5-7 hours a day. I would go to the court and practice dribbling, practice shooting, I was doing drills and exercises.

That summer after quitting, I remember being so happy, feeling like I had endless energy. I would run full court all day, and when everyone else was dogging it I would still be cutting hard and chasing after balls that rolled away from the court. haha. And because of all the practice, my jumpshot and handles were the best they'd ever been.

i naturally dont eat junkfood like chips and soda. I dont get how people can drink 3 cans of pop per day, thats an addiction. i rarely drink pop, maybe once per 2 months, and when i do it tastes extra delicious.
