The 29-year-old has high expectations of himself but he may well have surpassed those expectations over the last seven days. Ronaldo hasn’t just helped Real Madrid to three crucial victories in the league and Champions League, he has scored eight goals along the way. Just the one in his side’s 5-1 victory over Basel in the Champions League, a hat-trick in the sensational 8-2 win at Deportivo La Coru

Jordan was the most beloved athlethe because he always played best in important moments.
Ronaldo on the other hand is known for choking in big moments.
Greece 2004 chokejob with the most stacked team in the tournament.
Penalty choke against Chelsea 2008, but bailout by Van der Saar
Penalty choke against Bayern CL semifinals 2012
He played miserable against Atletico this year and scored a meaningles penalty in OT and celebrated like he just won the game :facepalm :facepalm bailed out by Sergio Ramos

Massive against Chelsea in 2006 CL 1/8 final despite being only 18.. they injured him so he had to miss the rest of the tournament.. Chelsea was a very good team back then and Barca wasnt on the same level as 2009-2011 so that matchup was very close.. if it wasnt for messi who got del horno red carded, i doubt we would have went though..
after that game all of the matches were much easier..
so yeah i would say that CL counts as much as CR's ..
who..
choked a penalty in the 2008 final (and the semifinal for that matter) and was HORRIFIC last year..
see the difference? when messi chokes (2012) they lose, when CR chokes (like always) his teammates bail him out..
if they dont.. he cries like in 2004 (http://images2.fanpop.com/image/photos/11500000/ronaldo-crying-cristiano-ronaldo-11564161-768-810.jpg)
as for balon d'ors EVEN if CR wins this year, Messi will still have MORE
3-1 in La Liga titles
6-2-2 in Clasicos for Barca
Goals are close but Messi still gets him in minutes-per-goal ratio
CL titles, La Liga titles, Achievements, Stats... the 4 most important things.. all in Messi's favor..
and what do you got? ref mistakes? ref mistakes.. i repeat REF MISTAKES while comparing the TWO GREATEST FOOTBALLERS OF THE GENERATION..
absurd

Easily the best player of our generation. I've had this discussion with a lot more smarter fans than those on here and the consensus is he is the best player of this generation. This discussion was hot last year after Champions League. Messi gets the nod due to reputation while CR is still playing at a high level. Messi isn't talked about as being the greatest anymore where CR is still being talked about as one of the greatest ever.
Messi is a great player because of CR's age, people don't want to believe he took over so late and it is now his era. How can a guy like Messi be better when he has so many flaws. His weak foot sucks. No aerial game. Free taking is pretty average. Can't score from every angle like CR. Doesn't playthe counter. CR does all of these things and I haven't even listed his strengths.
We are basically watching the era of Cristiano right now.

technically two but he had to come off in the 2nd game.. he was very lightweight and chelsea's players were way too dirty..
should i describe the whole 2005-2006 season to you? maybe the next four too.. because there is no way you have been watching football for more than few years..
The Germans won the WC yet i bet all you could care for was if CR's injury was serious and if he would play in the preseason games

Also, it is downright sad as a soccer fans to denounce CR's greatness because soccer players are known to be the weakest athletes in the world. They don't get the respect they deserve and then we are witnessing a soccer player in Cristiano that can change the perception of soccer players being non-athletic. He can change that stereotype for many fans but yet, his very own fans, the soccer crowd is not giving him his fair shake.
CR is ahead of his time. He is showing us the game 15 to 20 years from now.

I've watched that video. He hits it on the 2nd try because he underestimated how high it was the first time. He got major hang time.
Pepe also did it too and got it on the first try. I am more surprised about Pepe's athletic ability. If you can find that video, people will truly know why Pepe wins a lot of challenges. His and Ramos' aerial game is fantastic.

He could have a legit case for GOAT footballer when he retires in 6-10 years.
I've seen a lot of football over the last 15-20 years and most fans are usually WAY too nostalgic about legends from the past. Paradoxally, it's very funny how you keep hearing about how Messi already could be the GOAT, but that brazilian Ronaldo was 100 times better than current C. Ronaldo.

Cristiano could now possibly go on 10 straight years of being the best player in the world / having an argument / top 3 :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
That is INSANE.
Ronaldinho's peak/prime were 3 seasons from 2004-2006, then he was merely a decent player... Cut his career down through drugs, partying, etc.
