I have alot of people who I hang out with and care for which you can consider friends, but there are only 2 people who I consider close friends, people who I let in into my deep personal thoughts.

man, the older I get the smaller that list gets...:/
I feel like I used to have a shit load of "close" friends...now and days not so much. I have boys I would have labeled as "best friends" at some point that haven't seen in years...
people get jobs/family, move different places...drift apart :(

I would say I have 11 close friends.
I have a group featuring four others who we go back to elementary.
Two more who are brothers who I also went to school with who know the above four.
Female who went to school with me also
Another who knows the above 7 but went to a different school.
a brother/sister combo.
Female co-worker.
Sounds like a lot but it's not really considering two are siblings and four we've been together since grade school.

Not counting family? I'd say I have 1 really close friend. I have a group of friends that were really close for years, but we all kind of spread apart a bit. We'd be closer if we all lived in the same area

Zero. Not even any members in my family. None.
So do you just have a lot of associates or you're just not a people person.

anybody think happiness can be correlated to maximal number of close friends you can have without overextending yourself?

Why do you have so many close female friends
Serious question

Why do you have so many close female friends
Serious question
women are different from me and they offer lots to learn since their brains to work differently than mine does... though perhaps not as substantially different from mine as some might have you believe. more importantly, they tend to know a lot more other women than men do.
though three of those are family
i'm still being pretty reserved with my definition of "close friend" though. i've opened up with and had others open up to me with many more people. which i'm a) flattered by and b) proud of because it's not very easy to get people to open up.

I'd put my number at three. I agree with Primetime, in that I used to have a lotta 'boys' which I woulda labeled close friends, but we've drifted apart as we grow.

I hanged out with many people, I don't consider all of them friends.
I only consider 3 to be my closest and I consider them friends, a close one, my wing-men, who I share my views, and things that I don't talk about with other people including my family. They're also my favorite people when there are alcohols and beer in the table. We share the same view on people, society, religion, music and anything else.

The latter. I can only wish to be the former.

may be two or three but we're drifting farther apart
I'm turning 26 but all 3 of my friends and I are now married and starting new and demanding careers. Keeping in touch is just an after thought

Soooo so true.
I had a crew in my 20's that was about 25 deep. In my early 30's shrunk to about 10. Now in my late 30's I would say my wife, my son, my bro, and my best friend are the only ones I'd label close close. People move on. It's nothing personal. Everything changes.

No close friends. Just casual friends I see/talk to sometimes.

I have like 6 close friends, then a couple of people that I consider good friends. But most of them are from high school.

In secondary school, and outside of family, I'd say I have 3-4 really close friends.

indeed.
i'd say 3 or 4 close friends.. brothers even.
theres 10-15 chicks who are down to text/talk whenever, but i don't really consider them friends more like people to converse with.
and 20 or so fellas who are stornger than acquaintances but not quite close friends.
Most of my ride or die ****** are connected to me in four ways
Through Sports
Through Career Ambitions
and generally in being life-loving guys who like people and want to spread fun and lay down some solid memories
and have deliberately gotten out of their way to do a huge fukking favor for me way early on, which is of course reciprocated
I think the 3rd principle should be a minimum requirement to be registered as a Homo Sapiens, personally.

I'd say around 5 for me.
I used to be in a bigger friend group which involved like 14 people (8 girls 6 guys), but since we left school last year a group of 5 (2 girls 3 guys) of us have split off from that group and have become pretty much as close as family.
We're still friends with and see the others, some more than others, but I wouldn't say we are close friends anymore.
It seems the older you get the less close friends you have, which is a scary thought. I honestly cannot see myself not being as close as I am with the people I am with right now, but it seems like it is inevitable to happen at some point unfortunately.
