To have the most assists in history that is not a true point guard. Even though I consider him to be one of the greatest facilitators in history. Won 5 championships as the point guard.

1. Magic Johnson* 2346
2. John Stockton* 1839
3. Jason Kidd 1263
4. Larry Bird* 1062
5. Steve Nash 1061
6. Scottie Pippen* 1048
7. Kobe Bryant 1040

You mean to tell me a guy, in most people's eyes, that can't pass is leading all players in history in assists and the only guys that have more than him will be Magic, Stockton and Kidd.

Kobe Bryant
Assists to turnovers
1040-647

Steve Nash Assist to turnovers
1061-383

So pretty much Nash had more assists and close to half the turn overs?

Just further evidence that no one really cares about negative stats. The more of a ball hog you are the better you are perceived to be.

i like your optimism, but he isn't leading anyone YET. And Magic, Stockton, and Kidd aren't the only guys leading him. There's still Bird, Nash, and Pippen.

and at the current state of things, those 23 assists look more like a dream than reality.

so sit down, clown.

He has not added a single one since.

Hes been hurt of course....but that only helps make up for the difference in games played he has over most legends due to the longer playoffs now.

All this means is that due to the expanded number of playoff games all modern star swingmen have the advantage and will fill this list. Kobe has played literally twice as many playoff games as some guys who have won 6 rings.

You have 4 rounds of 7 game series.4 of the top 5 all time leaders in playoff games were from this era and all 4 of them were on the Shaq/Kobe lakers.

Totals in far more games played does little to prove a point on a matter like this. Its not like Kareem being the leading scorer in way more games than most. Kareem was dropping 35ppg at one point and scoring a lot till he was 38.

There are non guards who topped his playoff career high average 6-7 times.

There are multiple centers who put up more playoff assists per game than Kobe ever has on a playoff run.

Whatever you think about Kobe being selfish or not...there isnt a point to be made with such easily explained numbers.

Get less assists but play in an era with more playoff games you can easily climb the list.

Whatever Kobe does Lebron is going to pass if only for playing a bigger portion of his career in an era of longer playoff runs(not that that would be the reason he passes Kobe anyway). And then someone will pass him.

This is gonna go the same way as those irrelevant "Youngest to ____" records all the HS to NBA stars took because they didnt go to college. Rate lebron is going hes gonna blow by Nash one day and even be well past Kidd by the time hes near Kobes games played. Lebron could pass Isiah Thomas in a couple years.

But hes already played more playoff games than Isiah so....so what?

No point to be made with that information totals wise by the time hes played twice as many games as Isiah.....

Playoff totals just don't make sense to compare across such times.

The #1 seed used to get a bye....

Then played best of 3 series....

Then best of 5....

Now its another 7 game series.

That's why Larry Bird only played 9 playoff games as a rookie despite making the ECF and not missing any games. He took a 29 win team that lost some of its best talent and added only him to 61 wins....too many to have to play a first round series. His greatness limited his totals. Happened all the time with the best players at the time.

There have never been as many playoff games played as there are now. That's why Bill Russell and Dave Debusschere combine for 21 playoffs and 15 finals and Derek Fisher has only 2 less playoff games than them combined...in 16 playoffs and 7 finals.

But you knew all that because I told you two years ago.....

You do realize he hasn't played with Shaq since 04 right? How long you gonna rest your hat on that hook?

How can you be considered a ball hog when you have to opportunity to move into the top 5 in playoff assists? High usage player yes but ball hog no...

And there's nothing wrong with being a high usage player, you want the ball in the hands of guys like Kobe or Lebron and considering a large portion of his career was in the triangle offense, an offense where PGs are secondary Kobe's assist numbers are not surprising they should be high

not saying he's a bad passer

but when you're the ball hog of a team that when contending is filled with great players and when not contending you're giving more (if even possible) of a free card at ball hogging, assists are bound to pile up

add to that longevity and ta da

you need to have the ball to dish out an assists, that's why ball hoggers, statistically, are bound to make them
