How crazy and similar is this? The career comparison is nearly identical two of the all-time greats in their respected sport. Major props to Jeter finishing his career in grand style tonight a walk off single for the win and his last home appearance as a New York Yankee. You could not ask for better script than that. I tip my hat to Jeter. Well done my friend you earned and deserved it. :applause:

I give Kobe slight edge due to longevity with a extra regular season MVP. I think Kobe played at higher level meaning being a top 5 player in NBA than Jeter did in baseball. I mean if someone said Kobe the Derek Jeter of baseball I would probably agree with them.

All the great players had a loaded roster on their teams. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaq, Bill Russell, Tim Duncan etc.

Jeter is not a historically great baseball player. Jeter never even came close to winning a regular season mvp

He is not even close to top 20 all time. Even kobe haters wouldnt rate him below say top 15.

Jeter is EASILY an historically great player! He just doesn't rank as high as Kobe does for their respective sports. Kobe is arguably as high as sixth on the GOAT basketball list in my opinion. But with the accomplishments Jeter put up, he easily a legend! Anytime u have

Kobe is top 15-20, top 5-10 in his position while Jeter is top 15-30 in his position and all time he's not even in consideration. Jeter had the perfect upbringing, perfect hs and mlb career, and has banged tons of girls without a single scandal coming to light aside from passing herpes to jessica alba (which nobody gave him shit about). His only real issue was making a ton of fielding errors in the minor leagues. Kobe had an odd childhood moving from country to country, was an outcast in hs and his pro career took a little while to take off and got accused of rape by a girl who slept with 3 guys in a span of 24 hours and whos best friends didn't believe her story.

Kobe at worst is top 15 all time. At worst. He is in my top 10

among SGs only MJ is better.

I dont know how anyone could say Kobe is not a top 5 SG.

Jeter has had great moments. But he was above average defensively (later in his career he was a liability) and had a very good batting average. His power numbers werent great.

Jeter was a very good player. He is no where close to the equivalent of Kobe. Even during his career there were so many hitters way better than him. Jeter benefited from a extremely stacked team and the fact that baseball has no salary cap.

Honestly half the reason people love jeter is off the field stuff and his charisma. Granted he has had some fantastic moments, but he is ridiculously overrated. jeter is not even close to top 30 all time baseball players.

Jeter is more like Dirk if Dirk won more. Super clutch but never top three in any category but very consistent, and frequently that johnny on the spot guy that found a way. In baseball failure is expected more often than not but he had great timely plays as much as anybody in this era. Come playoff time he was as good as the best guys playing and he was more clutch. He did have a winning way about him. But Jeter was a different animal that meant more than just Baseball.

Baseball went thru a lot of turmoil and needed a character guy that could handle pressure and make the sport look good. Actually make all the major sports look good. He was the face of the sport and proof that old values of work ethic, character and social savvy still mean something. Was smart in all that he did, and kept a positive way and energy around him. You couldn't catch him off guard, not having figured out the possibilities of the next play, or looking down or getting down on himself. I doubt he ever got thrown out of a game.

Also a couple of Hall of Famers couldn't handle NY like Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, and high quality players like AJ Burnett, Kenny Rodgers, Kenny Lofton during Jeter's run.

The WS stretched in to Nov once that i remember and that was after Sept 11. He had good games but ultimately lost that series. Also i think there was only one or two games in the actual month of November so it isn't saying much.

I didn't know he was ranked that high in the postseason in so many categories. Hes also the one guy who MJ "said he couldn't do it like Jeter" referencing Jeter's ability to keep focused and off of page six in NY.
