View Full Version : Duncan, least help from refs of any superstar?
I was watching videos of Boogie when i stumbled upon this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVVaMEHmvAE
What Boogie was getting away with during that game against Duncan was ridiculous. Then I realized that I don't think I've ever watched a game or heard of a game where Duncan is babied by the refs.
He even gets techs for laughing while on the bench from refs.

That's only because he get's carried by teammates more than any other superstar. If he were to get the calls that most superstars get what would be the point in even having a season? The Spurs would win every game by 30+ points.

He probably has some of the more notable instances, but no, he gets about as much superstar treatment (or did) as any other all time great.
That whole Cousins incident was absurd though. How do you miss back-to-back offensive fouls as clear as these?

He's not close to being a superstar anymore.
You LeBron stans acting like any 38 year old should be able to put up 20/10. :facepalm
Actually, only 5 other players in NBA history has scored more than 15 PPG in a season at 37 or older.

Definitely the most boring player of the top ten. Serious lack of entertainment value. So, sure ... I guess?

The guy who started the rip through move? The guy who's probably gotten away with more fouls than anyone in history? The guy who's post game was largely drive across the lane and flop? This is idiotic.

The guy who never committed a foul in his whole career. Look at this annoying bi-sexual, theatrical "Foul Face" expressions:

I'd love to see some footage of all of this.
Since you said his post game is largely flopping, I'm expecting to see about 5 in one of those "35 points on December 21st 2003" videos.
Matter of fact, I'll make it easy for you:

Here's a vid of Duncan's post plays. A lot of drives, a lot of missed shots and fouls.
Point out some flops.

Here's Duncan hitting an And-1 game winner. He gets hit, he barely moves. Surely a flopper would do more to sell that call?

You do realize there are 4 bad calls in his favor in the first 1:30 of the first video right

First of all, they weren't. I won't even bother explaining why but most of those defenders didn't stay vertical; they leaned back and pushed their lower bodies into Tim.
Secondly, what do bad calls have to do with Duncan's game? You said he flops and get calls. I'd like to see them.
In fact, the play at 1:05 is they exact one you describe: Duncan drives across the lane and gets the call. And yet, he didn't sell the foul at all; he just threw up a shot.
Your post was complete hyperbole I'm afraid. Search 'Duncan rip through move' or 'Duncan flop' on Google and you'll get nothing. Surely one other person on this planet has noticed Duncan doing these things, since he relies on them more than 50% of the time ("The guy who's post game was largely drive across the lane and flop")?
Only player in the history of the league to get ejected for laughing. :lol

The way he throws up that shot with the exaggerated hand flail is a flop. Not everything has to be a James harden level fake sniper flop to be a flop. Duncan is a great player but he gets as much help as anyone has. Ever. That's the point of the thread. And driving into someone and creating all of the contact as they back up should never result in fts.

Argument over.
IMO, Duncan doesn't get any more/less help than any other superstar. That Joey Crawford foul was something else though. As far as flopping is concerned, he's got NOTHING on Manu.
Duncan is arguably the biggest complainer of all time.
I won't argue this, but I honestly can't remember a game where I can remember Timmy getting favored by the refs. I can only remember games where he's gotten unfavorable/questionable ref calls.

Clearly you never watched Duncan before his athleticism began to recede. Just because you've watched him from 2010 to present doesn't mean you know his game up and down.

Duncan literally complains every time he shoots the ball or makes a move that he is being fouled, and he has never fouled anyone before ever.
He's the biggest crybaby in league history and gets a shitload of undeserved calls.

It would be hard to say least help ever, but I think he is up there. This is subjective as a Spurs fan, but it doesn't hold a candle to guys historically like Durant. Dirk had a stretch earlier in his career where this seemed to be the case as well (superstar treatment like crazy). But on the other hand, I remember a period where Shaq couldn't get a call to save his life and was getting hit with crazy levels of offensive fouls just because of his size. It was one of the few times I remember feeling bad for an opponent of the Spurs for not getting calls.

He does do this a lot, but he one of the most disciplined defenders of all time. There are also TONS of times when he raises his hand immediately when he commits a foul.

Dirk has always been weirdly officiated. He gets a decent number of "superstar calls' but then he absolutely gets hacked with no call all the time. It more than likely evens out but that's why mavs fans think he gets no calls while non mavs fans think he gets every call.
Duncan has unquestionably gotten more calls than dirk historically though.

The thing with Shaq is he used to elbow defenders like crazy.
I guess the refs tried to even it out by letting defenders play extra aggressive defense.
Shaq never really got superstar treatment though. More like "350 lb monster treatment" :oldlol:

Oh really? Dirk averaged 9.1 FTA per game in 04-05, a number Duncan's never reached....AND HE'S A POST PLAYER.

Seriously. That was one of the most annoying, cheap moves that ever existed. You fail, OP.

The foul where he steps on Duncan's foot, and Duncan gets called for the foul (in '06 - game 7) still gets to me. Those extra free throws could have turned the game - chance for a repeat.

He's a finesse post player...not a power post player. Most of his shots in the post have always been going AWAY from the basket not towards it.

Doesn't look like he's going away from the basket in his very first playoff game. And this is in reply to immortal below too:

And you just showed a video where Duncan wins on a favorable preferential treatment call at the end of the game (where they usually let the players play). Fail.
Since the game score was 102-96, I don't think that Duncan won on that call. You may think that's preferential treatment, but that's your opinion. But the FULL game part , that I missed - sorry.

That play wasn't in game 7, b that's always called as tripping(and by rule it is the correct call), c the only reason the spurs got back in that game was the officiating. The spurs shot 50 fts in game 7.

Lemme ask you some shit serious....whats the point of you being here? You have nothing good to say and just waste forum space..
I'm pretty sure when I say this but ill speak for everybody else on this forum, THEY don't give a shit about what you post.
I just really have interest in your motivation to do such a wasteful thing, where you act like a clown, a bad one at that, to desperately get any kind of a hateful response. What is the point exactly?
Break yo weak ass character for one post and fvcking explain yourself, maybe this is some kind of a bet or maybe you get paid by an admin, that would seem reasonable. If you are really just doing this on purpose to waste your time then it's sad to think about how much of a nobody you are.......next

Iirc, his foot was planted first. You can look it up and post if you want. That whole Mavs-Spurs series was horrible officiating. It was just rewards seeing the refs payback the Mavs in the Finals. And where do you get 50 fts in game 7? I see Mavs - 31 and Spurs - 39. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200605220SAS.html
