Brainwashed
This.
People aren't born racist. This behavior is learned by the families they are raised by, and often by the community/society they live in.
Mel Gibson's alleged racism/antisemitism is a perfect example. His father is a well-known bigot and holocaust denier. Imagine the surprise at finding out Mel may share some similar views.
I became aware of some racist thoughts in myself recently. I ended up writing an article about my own racist ideas, and trying to uncover the root of those ideas. I learned a lot about myself from writing that, and it helped me discover where most of those thoughts were coming from. It was a healing moment.
I think a quality of a racist, one that I saw in myself, was not seeing individuals, but instead seeing groups. You do not see a single man, you see a Mexican. You do not see a girl shopping, you see a Jew shopping. Clumping people together and then imprinting qualities into them that aren't necessarily there. The entire group is bad, therefore every individual within it must be bad.
The answer to that, for me, was realizing that everyone is an individual. Stop having ideas about groups, and meet every person with complete open mindedness. Color or place of birth or religion does not define a person, in 99.9% of cases. It was a simple and obvious, yet eye opening realization.

a story id like to share. i went into aldi's one time and i noticed that the cashier was white and oddly the manager was asian, both female. there seemed to be tension between the cashier and manager and you can kind of tell the cashier hated her. So i grabbed my can of chicken rice dumplings and get in the line of this cashier. Their was a kind older white woman in front of me with a cart full of stuff and she kindly turned to me and said "would you like to go infront" i responded "yes, thank you", as i was going to get in front of her the cashier saw what was happening and said "no, come ill check your stuff up" motioning at the white women to be checked out before me. I didnt realize why she wouldnt allow me to cut the lady until after i left. That she was racists against asians and didnt want me to have the convenience of cutting in line after the woman asked if i wanted to. Its subtle racism like that that people dont understand or know about.

racism, sexism, etc. = power + prejudice
minorities, disfranchised people can't be "-istic"
learn to live by these definitions, because that's our future:cheers:
1% professional racists, using it to achieve advantages in life/employment (how many fox news staff would work for other news organizations?)
1% ideological racists who gave the issue some thoughts and can articulate their points.
98% losers that hate everyone else and blame them for their failure of a life. Those tend to follow the above mentioned 2% and repeat anything they say.

My problem is that "racism" is too broad of a term. We all know what prejudice and discrimination is. The word "racism" is just too vague. "Racism" could apply to anything from racially motivated murder to thinking certain people like certain foods. It's too broad.

youre clueless dog. nothing is ever black and white its a grey area. if you cant tell these people are closet racists then you need to get intuned with reality.
So you're using your psychic powers and just assuming that all these people are racists because they oppose illegal immigration?? :lol
You should know better. You can't label people based on "grey area" assumptions. That will get you into trouble. Racism is a black and white case scenario. You either are a racist, or you aren't. I'm a Latino and I oppose illegal immigration. Does that make me a racist against my own people? No. And why should it?? And why do I have to defend my own people? The only people I should care about deeply enough to fight for them are my friends and my family.
You're just like the rest of ISH with your 20-something minds that can't grasp what real racism is. Racism is violent, it's oppressive, it's demeaning. Wanting to defend your country by preventing an influx of illegal immigrants is not being racist, it's being right. Right in the eyes of the law. Every one of these border jumpers whether they jump from Canada or from Mexico is breaking the law. That's what those people in those pictures are up in arms about.

I agree with NumberSix, racism is too broad and often thrown around as a deflection of the truth.
I do not like or agree with any kind of racism in its purist form. I just think that it now gets used as a shield to issues or flaws that are necessary to be addressed.
I'm going to say it, Muslims here in Australia throw around the racist card or oppression to deflect their responsibility in creating the issues here in the first place. I get tired of hearing them b.tch about their religious rights and what they should be getting here in Australia. Such a f.cking entitled lot, it makes you wonder if they actually appreciate anything here
All other religious groups can tow the line here in Australia, why not the MUSLIMS? They create trouble in every western Country they live in.

When a word can mean almost anything, it really means nothing. That's why I say racism doesn't exist. Because the word "racism" has no meaning.
Prejudice exists
discrimination exists
violence exists
hate exists

Sure, and a million other things.
Lynching black people = racism
Saying they like chicken = racism
It's much easier to just call it "murder" or "telling crude jokes". There's no guess work like there is with "racism".
It is just too broad of a brush. Saying someone is a "racist" is just not useful. It gives almost no information. It could be anything from "he beats up interracial couples" to "I overheard him telling Asians can't drive jokes".

You need to define 'racism' first.
In 2014 society, the general public has confused 'has opinions' with 'is racist'.

I've literally heard people say...
Opposing tax increases = racism.
You'll notice people with certain political agendas will always try some "six degrees of Kevin Bacon" to find a way to connect disagreeing with their agenda as "racist", "sexist", "homophobic" or something like it. Like...
Phase 1. black people are disproportionately poor
Phase 2. tax increases on rich and middle income people would help them
Phase 3. NOT wanting to tax rich and middle income people means you want blacks to not get helped
Phase 4. Not wanting to pay higher taxes = you hate black people.

Yeah and it's annoying as shit. When I was growing up in order to be racist you would literally have to want to lynch all black people or drown every Mexican into the Pacific. I remember this half-black kid in 3rd grade getting called chocolate-boy and no one gave a damn. Least of all Chocolate-boy himself.
Now it's like if you say the term 'black guy' or 'taking it in the ass is gay' you're a racist/misogynist/homophobe/etc etc.
The problem is the world is full of sheep and they never lose their herd mentality during adulthood. It's the same people who flock to get the new iPhone and claim Steve Jobs is a "genius" but can't even attest to having read a single work of philosophy or a single novel beyond what they were taught in school.

If it's based on race prejudice and discrimination then it is racism.
Racism is more an intention or belief, NOT action. Action is just an indication of it. Not that hard to understand.

Having spent a great deal of time in Asia this further reinforces my belief that nobody hates an Asian more than another Asian.
There is a reason Asians do well in America, because if they start stepping out of line the shame brigade shuts them down.

They also show a lot of respect in the workplace, society and engage western people, whether that be playing a sport or being overly friendly in general...
They don't go out on the street protesting against oppression and mistreatment and demanding customs in a western country either...
