they tend to be herd / harem animals, especially in the presence of bears and orcas.

their usual hangout is ice, and as with many animals there can be safety in numbers.

interesting fact: walruses are members of the seal family, which itself is part of
the dog branch of carnivorans (i.e. the dog-cat order). they have a common
ancestor with bears, so you might say that walruses evolved from early bears
that went to sea. of course there's no love lost between the two these days!
