View Full Version : Is the pacific northwest the 'nicest' part of the country?

Not nice as in friendly necessarily but just clean and hospitable and low on things like traffic/crime/pollution/etc.
Ive been to Yosemite once but never to any of the actual cities/towns north of SF.
Is it pretty nice up there? Ive heard pretty good things.

Yosemite da bess.
For me, Southern California all the way up to top of Washington are great. Normal people, beautiful scenery, any kind of weather you want.
West coast is just the best part of the country by far.
Just compare it to the East coast: Rednecks and bandwagoners down in Florida, confederates all the way up to west virginia, shitty Baltimore aka Bodymore Murdaland, shitty boring Boston full of bandwagoner Bostonians, Philadelphia, the Detroit of the East, New Jersey-nuff said, Delaware-wtf is that place all about, assholes in New York, and then WASP assholes from Connecticut to Maine. East coast is nothing but a bunch of rednecks and rotting cities full of miserable people with piss poor weather.
WEST COAST=BEST COAST.

The people are chill, but if you dislike sunny days...the weather is awful. If the weather affects your mood you will hate the pacific northwest as most days are overcast and dreary (or rainy). Nice chill people though, definitely.

Yes I have, but if one never left California in their life, they would not be missing out on much:rockon: There is a reason we are universally known as the best state in the country.

I've never lived anywhere other than the 2-oh.
I ain't into outdoor activities too much. But Seattle is rare city you can go skiing In mountains and go to ocean in an hour, hour and a half drive.
All types of water. Puget sound. Lake washington. Other lakes. Lots of dope parks.
Everyone always says it's one of most beautiful cities on America.
It's basically two citites to. South Seattle, white people minority. North Seattle, eastside , Bellevue white and rich as FUCC.
Traffic sucks ass everywhere. Crime high in south end. Low in Northend.
If your into nature and shit, yea it's gotta be one of the best parts in country.
It is true. From mid - end October till bout April, it's dark , gloomy and wet. Breaking out all my north faces now... Spring and summers perfect. 70-85 sunny. This time of year sucks, we know it's bout to be 6 months of gloom.

I live in Southern California, and while the weather kicks ass I think it is seriously overrated.
You need to drive everywhere. I had so much fun partying with my NYC friends there, just hopping a train, walking or taxing to the next bar, in LA someone needs to drive or you risk a DUI. Cabs are retardedly expensive too.
So Cal is seriously segregated. The demographics might be multicultural, but people often roll with their own kind and there can be serious beef if you pursue women from other ethnic groups. Certain cities are basically just lumps of people from certain countries.
You need to make 6 figures to even consider being middle class, let alone live comfortably.
Most people aren't from here, so they treat the place like shit, most of LA looks and feels like a Latin American dumpster fire, and there isn't enough civic pride for anyone to give a f*ck.
People are dumber in California. East Coast people are much more articulate and interesting to hang with, most Californians cannot even speak in proper sentences.
these guys pretty much nailed everyone I hang out with here:

Bad news. The porn industry left the valley because California passed laws they have to wear condoms. They all moved to Vegas, where there are no condom laws. Sad days for Chatsworth. Now all we got is Marilyn Mansons house, and the place where the Charles Manson family lived.

I have spent time in both and I think I like Portland a bit more than Seattle. There are definitely some weird vibes going on in Portland, but I actually like that aspect of it. No doubt Seattle is a great place, but it has this sort of mainstream/corporate feel to everything while Portland is kind of the opposite. Also Portland seems to be a lot more livable in terms of things like housing costs and traffic. I do have family in Seattle so it would probably be easier to get situated up there.
Of the states I've lived in:
Oregon (within an hour of Portland) > Southern California > Arizona

That's true of every big metro city. But I'd imagine traffic is worse in LA than NYC. The bridge and tunnel crowd that don't actually live in NYC have to worry about traffic.

New York City is far worse in those aspects. Also, rats outnumber humans something like 8:1, and the place smells like a urinal in the summer. It's a fun place to visit, but waaay overblown by the media it's home to.

I live in the only tolerable part of Florida, in my opinion. Not a chance I'd want to live in Orlando/Miami/Jacksonville. Florida gets a bad rap and much of it is true, but I really love the weather and things to do down here.

Pretty much everything this guy has said is true about SoCal. I was born and raised there, and the whole side of my mom's family is from SoCal. Riverside, LA and Orange counties. Now only 3 of the 21 members of that side of the family remain. They have all left to Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Texas.
Technically, I believe NY is slightly ahead of California in racial segregation but it's close. White liberals love minorities as long as they don't have to live next to them, or send their kids to the same school as them. The education system sucks there too. It used to be top 10-15 in the 80s, now its in the bottom 15 and plummeting fast. I believe Cali has sunk so low, even redneck Texans are ahead of them now.
The weather in California is the best in the world, but even that can't stop it's residents from fleeing. Luckily they make up for it with an influx of illegal aliens.

Translation: your family was too broke to stay in California so they settled for cheaper, shittier pastures.
Based on real estate values (which are back to prerecession levels) rest assured someone wealthier took their place.

I live in San Diego and IMO it is the best city out west. We have the best weather in Cali. The vibe is real laidback the people are too. Not as big of a party city like LA, but it's only a 2 hour drive away. I like that its close to Tijuana also where I go to get my Cuban cigars and some great Mexican food.

Yeah San Diego is beautiful. Nice, clean, politically to the right. I do wonder if it can thrive forever though. They have to deal with California's god awful state politics, not to mention it's sandwiched between Mexico to the south and Mexico #2 to the north. Is it only a matter of time before California's resentful liberals undermine it the way they try to undermine all successful things, with taxes, affirmative action, immigration etc? Who knows.

Sure. All the white people(and blacks) are leaving California and all the Central American people are coming in because, white people are broke and Central American immigrants are loaded with cash. :oldlol:
Maybe, you don't want to leave because you know one day your future children might not meet the education standards of other states and be held back. Like I said, Texas used to be the idiot state and California used to have the cream of the crop students. Now redneck Texas is ranked ahead of California in virtually every state performance report. In part because, the more intelligent people in California have left for Texas and other states. Did you know it costs 2.5 times more to rent a U-Haul moving truck from California to Texas, than the reverse because the moving trucks coming into Texas from California pile up and they need the heavy incentives to get people to take them back. :oldlol:

I don't get the love for SoCal tbh. Like it's really nice and all. Disneyland is down there, that's pretty tight. But in terms of places to just be, I don't think you can beat the Bay Area as far as California goes.
But I guess different strokes and all.

I think theres a certain perception that just gets recycled over and over, even tho most people find their experience there doesnt really match the perception at all.

San Diego County went to Obama in 2012. Outside of Orange County, the list of desirable conservative strongholds is a laughably short one.

The Bay Area is way too expensive for what it offers. It's not London.
I'll admit LA is a chaotic, unmanageable mess (all megacities are) but in terms of amenities on a grand scale, it is surpassed only by NYC in this country. I love the place.
