I'm thinking about going to my local barber who cuts my hair for one...because why the fukc not? Putting it in the hands of the man who does that shit...makes sense. I frankly just don't care to shave, so I like the fact that someone else could do it for me, anyway.

i use a straight razor... occasionally. it's kinda fun and relaxing but it's also time consuming and offers no closer of a shave than a half decent multi blade razor. there's also maintenance involved.

i've never had a full shave at a barber but the guy i used to go to would use it to clean up the back of my neck. it would be pretty cool to have a full shave. something about letting a dude wield an unprotected blade near my throat makes for a bit of an adrenaline rush...

Fukkk I wonder back in the day how many "grooming accidents there was". What's the shallowest cut one could get on their neck that would still cause serious trouble/life-threatening?
there's a reason it's like a cliche to be murdered at the barber. like in rounders when matt damon and ed norton are there and matt's like "i feel like i'm gonna get hit".... it was probably done all the time. like a hit man in barber disguise, somebody comes in and you never see him leave.

I started using a straight razor a couple months ago and it's one of the better things that I've done.

I have really sensitive skin and I would always break out in a rash or get ingrown hairs. Tried using an electric shaver but that actually made it worse.

I started using a SR as a last resort and it's done wonders for me. Yes, it's a bit more time consuming and has a higher risk of cutting you (if you don't know what you're doing) but in the long run, it's less expensive, better for your skin and like another poster said, it's pretty relaxing.

If you pay someone to do it, even better.

Go for it OP. You won't regret it (unless he cuts you)

When I first started, I cut myself a couple of times. One of the worst things you can do while learning to use a SR is trying to rush it. You have to take it slow otherwise you're guaranteed to cut yourself.

Another big mistake that people make when using a SR is using regular shaving cream from a can. Just don't do it. That's all I'm gonna say :lol

see this is exactly what i did. buy a straight blade without backup disposables and then start shaving too close to the start of a shift or meeting up with friends. and so i'd try to go way too fast get really pissed off and frustrated but keep trucking along

actually i was a member at the ymca gym which had a steam room... i had heard shaving with that much moisture is very pleasant. so i tried it. with the straight blade. cut myself to pieces as i got waaaay too hot cuz some guy came in when i was halfway through and pushed the steam button. i had to leave with a bloody patchy mess of a face and go to reception and ask for a regular razor. :facepalm

I started doing it but since I've moved to uni I don't have any razor blades with me so I use a regular hand razor. If/when I get a full beard, I'd love a cut-throat but they cost about

there's a reason it's like a cliche to be murdered at the barber. That's not due to multiple cases, though. It's due to the famous murder of Albert Anatasia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Anastasia) in big NYC hotel. And he was shot, not cut. This was when the Anatasia crime family became the Gambino crime family.
