'Crouching Tiger' Sequel to Hit Netflix & Imax Simultaneously in Groundbreaking Deal


Netflix Chief Content Officer (CCO) Ted Sarandos has long wanted to get into the first-run movie business.

In a dramatic rebuke of the traditional theatrical release, Netflix & The Weinstein Co. have signed a deal to release the sequel to Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon simultaneously on Netflix & in select Imax theaters around the world.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was released in 2000 & was nominated for best picture. CTHD won the best foreign language Oscar & earned more than $213 million worldwide, including $128 million in the U.S.

Netflix is the best value I've had for entertainment in long time.

Netflix announced earlier that they signed an exclusive 4 picture deal with Adam Sandler. They're changing the game. Theater chains must hate them now (cable channels already do).

I understand how great a movie Crouching Tiger was. But damn if I didn't wish this was one of the Zhang Yimou films that saw good state side popularity following the wave of attention Crouching Tiger got here.

I mean... I guess a Hero sequel wouldn't work but... I just want Yimou to keep making Wuxia.

Anyone, Netflix doing some interesting things. As mentioned before it is one of the best entertainment packages out there.
