View Full Version : Music Mt. Rushmore: Genre for Genre

L.Kizzle

There have been various genres of music over the past 100 years or so. Let's list as many genres as we can and list our four that would be on that Mt. Rushmore.

PS. A band can count as one. So we won't see any Paul, John, George and Ringo taking up one genre.

I'll start with a Funk Mt. Rushmore.

Mt. Rushmore of FUNK:
James Brown; Sly Stone; George Clinton; Bootsy Collins

I don't' think this one can be up for debate.

The heads of Clarke, Lowe, Gore, and Sumner should be on Mt. Rushmore of New Wave.

Yeah I was thinking of that but these musicians cut through the various sub genres.

Then you have groove jazz etc which you could classify James Brown etc under!

Hell, some might even argue that Rick James should be up there.
Bootsy Collins is one of the most prominent figures in Funk music. He played with the Godfather and his two biggest pupils in George Clinton and Sly Stone. Just check the credits to those P-Funk album and see who the main musician is for most of the jams. Bootys is playing everything on them (also Bernie and later on Junie.) But it was mostly George and Bootsy.

Jimmy Castor ... He was cool but no where near Mt. Rush category. Probably not ever top 35 funk importance.

EWF I'd have even behind Ohio Players and Kool & the Gang.

Rick James is around Prince/Roger Troutman funkage. Close to top ten.
