Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt said Friday he is open to the idea of resting LeBron James at times during the season to keep the star forward fresh for a postseason run.

"It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. And we have to be conscious of keeping these guys fresh and healthy and ready for the games ahead."

"If LeBron sits out a practice," Blatt said. "And I value practice probably more than most. But the fact that we may need to rest him and others at different points during the preparation process and even during the season, in my mind it's the right and the smart thing to do.

Lebron could rest the entire year and the Cavs would still have HCA

I hope he averages the fewest minutes of his career considering how deep this team is. There should be more than a few blowouts where he won't even have to play in the fourth quarter.
*cue fourth quarter jokes*

Doubt this happens. Knowing Bran, he'd be against this. Dude wants to/likes to stack his RS stats and rack up individual accolades.

Yes.

And considering he was able to win 40 games in the west while his 2nd best player missed 30 games and his point guard shot 39% on a team with the worst bench in the league

You really think a team of Love/Irving/Waiters & Varejo with Miller, Marion & TT wouldn't win 50 games out east? Which is plenty more than enough wins to gain HCA out east.

i expect lebron to play below 34 minutes a game this season. Then bump up his minute to about 38 or 39 depending on competition in the playoffs. Championship for sure.

Kyrie's emergence, with a prime Love? And Waiters scoring, yea LeBron can get some much needed rest.

Well duh!

With a team way more stacked than the heat ever was this makes sense.

Don't need him till the playoffs anyway

Rick Adelman isn't coaching the Cavs and the Twolves had Kmart too.

50 wins is imaginable tho

I doubt he agrees with this since he likes to grab stats during the regular season.

I already like this guy more than I ever liked Spo. :applause:
At least this Blatt guy is smart enough to know you shouldn't burn out the best player in the game just because certain washed up shooting guards want to be on vacation for half the year.

That dude uses Mark Madsen as his username. Kevin Love is literally a god compared to Madsen. :oldlol:

Considering he's avg. 78 regular season games played in his 11yr career, it makes sense for him to miss practices.

If he does miss any reg. season games for resting purposes, it definitely won't be any home games.

Why not? Fans in other cities pay A LOT of money to see him play, so him sitting out road games just for resting purposes would be a very bad look.

Not as much as Cavs fans will be paying this year to see him and other new acquired players.

Some nose bleed seats are already going for like $500.00 on the black market.

It's absurd how all these teams have to resort to resting guys instead of the league just shortening the season. I understand it's about $ but honestly the fans should give some pushback on this. Demand they shorten the damn schedule!

Are people forgetting Kevin Love put up ridiculous shit like a 30-30 game? And averages 26/13? And Kyrie is a 20/6 type player? Plus they have Varejao, Waiters, Thompson, and some nice bench pieces like Marion/Mike Miller... LeBron could sit till 2 months to playoffs and the Cavaliers would still be a 3 or 4 seed at worst.

Due to his excessive steroid shots.

Yeah that would be greate and Lebron will appreciate it. Lebron will only play on garbage time and when the game is out of reach and rest during 4th quarter.

what about the postseason? What if the steroids wear off just like the 2014 finals?

Yes, that's what true basketball fans want: less basketball.

So now LeBron won't be conditioned well enough to avoid cramps. Great.

So, LeBron without steroids put up 28/8/4/2 on 67%? Post Melos stats from the Finals last year, please. Oh, wait... :oldlol:

Stupid idea. Dude is still in his prime. It's gonna ruin his conditioning.
