The game is called Star Citizen it's the largest crowd funded video game project ever. It would be funny if the game turns out to suck:oldlol:

it's a bullshit
everything they have released so far has been a shitty, buggy mess, most of the promised stuff has been delayed and the game probably wont be out for the next 4 years

i actually threw money at this :D it's now up to around $75m. the developers could very well run away with it :/

This.
Making money through online videogaming can be easy. Are they trying to make another EVE Online?

They are trying to make something like EVE except everything is controlled directly. Like a space flight sim + FPS + exploration + business, all controlled directly.
It's way too ambitions to be realized in any real way, but the space combat demo (essentially) they released so far is pretty promising.
Anyway, a full copy of the game including all ships costs $20k. I'm dead serious. A full copy of the game is 20k.

Isn't that true of nearly all of these indie MMO games?

Bad marketing strategy. Gamers won't pay that one-time. They prefer to slowly pay up to that point and more.

I don't give a shit about this game and I'm sick of hearing about it, but that's a misleading number and doesn't really reflect the nature of how it will be played.

It won't be how the game will be played, but that's how they made 70 million on a product that doesn't even exist yet and is highly likely to be trash.
Heard about this game my friends were talking about. Saying that the game got over developed funds and it will fail to meet expectations with the amount of has.
My question is where do the remainder of the money go to? The devs keep it?

lol they would probably release a shit product and run away with the dough, and lol @ paying 20k for a ****ing game. if you are THAT into gaming(which probably isnt healthy lol) might as well throw the cash at a game that actually has good rep like WOW or some shit and get a maxed charater for 1/100th of that

I like the idea of crowd-funding... but it needs to be regulated a lot more than it currently is.

I think crowd funding is begging for a class action lawsuit at some point once a claim is large enough. It's an unconventional investment vehicle that blurs the line between equity and consumption. I think eventually people will get burned bad enough to rebel against the platform.
