london (wimbledon), new york city (us open), paris (french open), melbourne (australian open)
just because of the four grand slam events in tennis

the lakers are the most popular team in basketball thus making los angeles the best sporting city for basketball. but they're definitely not in the discussion for best sporting city like london, new york city, paris, and melbourne are because los angeles doesn't have a grand slam event in tennis which is the best sport.

Just was thinkin this,Of all the cities that has the major 4 sports in their city ,Beantown pound for pound has prob the best group of top players in their respective sport .Bird(some say russell), Orr,Teddy ballgame, then that guy who was picked 199th in the 6th round in 2000 nfl draft.

London.
3 Olympic games
Home to the biggest Tennis tournament in the world
Home of Cricket(Lords)
Home of Rugby(Twickenham)
Numerous Football teams
Wembley Stadium - The most iconic sports stadium in the World
And in a few years will probably be home to a Superbowl winner.

overall i would say boston too, but tennis is larger than the 4 major american sports combined, and the us open is held in new york city, which is why it automatically makes it the best sporting city in the united states.

Firstly London has 2 football teams (possibly more), that are each worth what the Lakers and Clippers are combined.
Superbowl probably doesnt even get as many worldwide viewers as the Wimbledon final which is hosted in London every year.
London hosted the Olympic games 3 times
The legendary Lords Cricket Ground is in London, and Cricket is WAY bigger than hockey and baseball.
LA has never even hosted a UEFA Champions League game, a tennis grand slam or the Ashes :oldlol:
No one cares about MLS and no one outside America even knows college sports exist trust me.
LA is not even comparable to London on the sports scene dude.

2 Olympiads (generally considered the most successful in history)
World Cup Final
7 Super Bowls
230 National titles between USC and UCLA.
Current home of the Stanley Cup
LA is a city of champions.
http://www.citylab.com/design/2012/08/which-american-cities-won-most-medals/2920/
Los Angeles leads with a whopping 45 medals, San Francisco is a distant second with 11, followed by Miami, Gainesville, and Trenton-Ewing with 10 each; New York and Austin have 9 each; San Diego has 8 and Athens, Georgia, won 7. Baltimore and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul brought home 6 each; and Denver, Charlotte, and Portland, Oregon have 5 each.
45 medals in 2012? That's more than Germany's haul.

the best sporting city isn't the city with the best teams and athletes. it's the city with the best sporting events. the grand slam event in tennis is by far the best sporting event in the world and the us open is in new york city. it's better than all of the sporting events in los angeles combined.

NYC has never even hosted an Olympiad or World Cup Final, both which dwarf tennis in popularity and importance. Be real.

it doesn't matter since they aren't played in the same city every year like the grand slam events. those sports can be more popular and important, but tennis is the most intelligent and fairest sport, which makes it the best.

Yeah honestly NYC sports haven't been doing great for the past 20 years besides maybe the Yankees and Giants during their championship years. The Knicks leave a lot to be desired. However, I have cousins who said early 90s Knicks were like religiously watched by many New Yorkers unlike today where we're just so damn inconsistent.

But LA does have a prestigious annual sporting event, The Rose Bowl. Every few years it doubles as the BCS Championship game, which is the most watched annual sporting event after the Super Bowl. BTW this city produces more NFL players than any other metropolitan area, amazing considering we have no NFL team.
I'd probably vote London or Paris for greatest sports city, but LA's credentials are pretty formidable.

New York has arguably the best fans--local teams always do well in attendance regardless of their record. The Knicks were trash throughout the 2000s yet routinely sold out every game. Being in densely packed Manhattan helps with that, but still.

England needs to host the World Cup pretty soon. Then after that it will truly become a great sports country and London will be forever enshrined after holding the Final at Wembley.

Whatever dude. I never made a statement about LA being the best sports scene in the world. I just refuted your ASININE claim that the Lakers are the only thing LA has going for it, totally ridiculous statement on your part.
