Sad that even basketball teams have no idea what types of hook shots exist anymore, they call every hook a skyhook. Just like there are many different types of jumpers and layups there are different types of hook shots. The shot in the video is not a skyhook that was a simple and still somewhat commonly used running hook. The skyhook is shot from a pivot, not on the run, and has a very specific form that Giannis displayed none of.

*Running Hook <- some players today still throw this shot up occasionally, though I doubt many practice it. A few centers like Dwight still use it regularly.

*Sweeping Hook <- Never seen it in the modern game. Probably nobody practices it in the NBA.

*Skyhook < - Also never seen it in the modern game. Very vertical release and body movement straight from a post-up position in the pivot. Kareem, Bob Lanier, and Artis Gilmore (probably very few others) shot this very specific looking hook out of the pivot, it's less common even than the Sweeping hook.

I know what play you are talking about, the release was a nice looking finger roll, but McGee's use of it was not in the form of a move, it was a put back on an offensive rebound. McGee doesn't really have moves, he's not proven himself useful in that regard in the NBA.

An actual move on the floor to set up for say, a Wilt finger roll, or a running hook, is one or a combination of a pivot spin, drop steps, crab dribbles, or if you catch it deep just pivots or reverse pivots. A running hook can actually be shot off a catch or on the run from face-up drive in triple threat too, so sometimes a pivot isn't even involved.

I'm excited about this Giannis kid this year.

Will tune in to a few Bucks games because of him and Jabari

Man, this is not close to being a skyhook. This is more like a running jumphook. Even I use to be able to make that shot. Of course I didn't come close to reaching above the rim, but still.

Cavs correctly described the legendary skyhook by KAJ. The greatest shot in basketball history.

How hard is the skyhook to do? Is it something a tall, long player like Durant can learn if it really is unstoppable? It is a brilliant shot to watch

The jump hook is easier to shoot. In my younger days, I used to like posting up and shooting the jump hook. It was harder to block and it was a fairly accurate shot, especially if you had an angle to hit it off the board or glass.

The sky hook was a shot I never even tried. As Cavs said, you shoot the sky hook on an arc.

I don't know if Durant can shoot it, but no one since Kareem has ever been consistently successful with it. Kareem's length and mastery of the shot made it the most awesome weapon ever seen in basketball, and I know because I saw my 76ers lose twice in the NBA Finals, in large part because of that sky hook.

It would be great if a modern day player like Durant learned it and tried to use it in today's game.

Nope, no cigar.

Watch how Dimo shoots it slightly side arm, and the release point is kind of low and conventional. This is the basic hook shot, no doubt.

Watch below and learn. Enjoy it as well:cheers:

I saw that. CLEAR not a travel, I honestly have no idea what these people are seeing. Two steps after the dribble nothing more.
