Saturday morning cartoon is officially extinct as The CW has finally dropped its cartoon block this week for educational programs.

Thanks to cable, stream and FCC, the Saturday morning cartoon blocks had been on a slow death since 1990's. FCC enforcing stricter rules on broadcast networks that drive advertisers away while viewers shifted to less-strict cable networks, and then came the final blow in the age of online streaming.

One thing I notice. Cartoons haven't been on major stations for a long time now.

Also, are Sunday sermons still broadcast? I am never up early to see it on television.

Remember the days of Jimmy Swaggart and Billy Graham?

So sad, poor kids of today. Back in the 80's and 90's we had some really good cartoons on Saturdays. As a kid you had some good cartoons to look forward to.

Nowadays most households are hooked on cable TV and some has moved on to streaming TV like Netflix. There is next to no needs for cartoons to fill up the weekend morning where people can just jump to those channels instead.

Anime, which was huge on broadcast and cable years ago, has left with merchandise-driven ones, Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh and such, on air.

They all moved to Cartoon Network but that station is not even the same.

I remember thinking I was a big boy when I stopped watching Saturday morning cartoons/wrestling and started watching Inside Stuff and Saved by the Bell college years :pimp:

More cartoons on primetime, oddly enough.

Good riddance! They had become radical leftist political platforms and indoctrination seminars anyway. Decades gone are the innocent cartoons of our youth

I read the title as RIP Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

There are still some Sunday sermons.

Makes sense. Tons of kids all use internet/ipads/Netflix for cartoons these days. Those Sunday sermons are geared towards a bunch of old people, so they are still going to be on traditional TV.
