Mark Waugh's is probably my favourite, he was an Australian cricketer who's brother also played and was better than him. His nickname was Afghan/Afghanistan because he was the forgotten waugh (this was before the current afghanistan war).

I think overall MMA fighters or combat sports in general have the best nicknames of any sport hands down.

Another one Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell. One of my childhood idols growing up. I had the pleasure of meeting him 3 years ago super cool laid back guy that you could have a beer with.

Mark Waugh imo was way better, he was a elite opening batsmen in one day cricket and a super middle order batsman in test cricket and probably the best slip fielder of all time.

Steve Waugh was more "clutch" in a sense but in general Mark was a far more talented all around cricketer.

Mark Waugh was no scrub but you can't say he was way better. Steve was a great captin, had an amazing test record and was a very handy bowler before his back injuries. Mark was a good player but he was expendable and replaceable. What was his test average in the end, something like 38-40ish? Your right he was probably the best slip fielder I've ever seen though.

Oh here Holding's was good. Master blaster was good too. I forget who is was (maybe Cleary or nick jewell?) but one of the victorian players who retired a few years back used to be nicknamed "clock", the reasoning was that people had noticed one arm was slightly shorter than the other. Thought that was clever.

Yeah but really anyone imo could have been a great captain with probably one of the most stacked team's of all time with literally close to 11-15 hall of fame type players on the squad including the best wicketkeeper batsman ever, a two top spin bowler of all time, the best fast bowler of his generation. Those Australian teams from 99-2012 or so was one of the most epic generations of talent we have ever witnessed in any sport.

There was literally a period of time where a Australian B side would be one of the best teams in in the last 20 years with guys like Haddin, Mike Hussey (could not break into the squad for ages), Andrew Bichel, Stuart Mcgil, Brad Hodge, Shane Lee, Simon Katich and many more I forgot about being at best fringe players and all were world class.

I've always like Paul Pierce's nickname "The Truth."

But I think the best are ones that become a person's most recognizable name like Magic.
