Like what, a few thousand people in Africa died from it and a few others around the world have?
The media is way over sensationalizing shit. Hundreds of thousands of people die from just the regular flu every year....
Shut the fvck up about ebola already.

Just something to keep the retards occupied until it completely disappears in a years time and they move onto something else.

Ebola has been known about in the scientific community for decades and is still uncurable.
We are phucked if it spreads.
50% survival rate TOPS and that's only if you are in a top of the line institution receiving state of the art healthcare.

I swear, the media only exists to take the average american's (dipshit) mind off of things that truly matter, and takes it off the big picture of everything and instead refocuses it onto this bullshit.
You know what we should really be doing? Exploring the SHIT out of space. But these retards are so concerned about ebola, ISIS, and all of this stupid gay shit and in the process they don't give a shit about things that benefit our world and the world we leave behind as a whole.
Fvck the media, fvck them up their stupid asses.

And the media exists to make money, not serve the government in keeping American minds "off of things that "truly matter."

i agree that the ebola alarmism is completely overblown.
that said, its pretty dumb to compare ebola with influenza. ebola kills ~50% of people that get infected, flu kills ~0.015% of people infected.

The news is literally
"Tonight! ANOTHER Person gets Ebola!"
"ISIS Beheaded a guy!"
"Weather!"
Like no shit, diseases spread and sometimes people die. And yeah, sometimes people kill other people. Have these idiots never seen a **** die before? And I couldn't give two flying ***** about the goddamn weather.
They don't go in depth in any of this shit at all anyways. Zero substance. They just say the bad shit happened, further break that down for like 30 seconds, and then move on to more bad shit to keep the ratings high.

we've had 3 cases here?
so we've probably had more deaths from lightning strikes too...doesn't mean anything
comparing this to the flu doesn't mean much either...the flu kills lots of old people, ebola takes all ages, and IF you live from ebola you are still likely to be brain damaged. It is a truly frightening illness imo.

the idea of this fckin thing getting loose and out of control in the US (like it has in West Africa) needs to be taken seriously imo, and it IS being taken seriously.

from what i've read, ebola is unlikely to easily spread in most countries. as in-- you can't catch it unless the carrier is showing symptoms AND you handle their bodily fluids. the difference is that in parts of africa there's a tradition of washing the dead by hand, not to mention a general laxness about hygiene.
correct me if wrong... just repeating what i've read.

I read that it is extremely difficult to go through the routine process of tracking down those who the patient has come into contact with in Africa. Something that is much easier to do here in the states. I think that is their biggest hurdle there.
I don't think that it will 'escape' here in the US...but I don't think it is anything to brush off either.

You are right, in a lot of villages there their traditions involve cleaning out the orifices of the dead and keeping the body with them in the house for a period of time. They are also distrustful of western doctors in a lot of cases and avoid turning people in when sick, there's also shortages on things like rubber gloves, a lot of people don't have real toilets, shortages of water forces people to drink water mixed with human excrement. The conditions are just completely different to a developed nation. Short of a mutation (which is a very small chance unlike what some idiots here keep parroting) it isn't really built to spread in a first world nation.

Yeah I did it looks pretty cool, one thing I still worry about though is using pc motherboards in pins. If it's generic and runs on any hardware it's ok but could be a situation like there was with the pinball 2000 machines and needing certain parts no longer being made. Someones making kits now but for awhile I think you couldn't fix some issues.
Looks good though and the playfield definitely has more going on than most of stern's releases these days. I did think the walking dead pin looked pretty cool though but it would be 100 times better with the comic artwork. Again though stern just seem interested in pumping out tables with the same fan style lay out and not taking any risks or putting in many lay out changes, I'm a big fan of pat lawlors tables so wish they'd do some more stuff like he used to do. I think he's freelancing with jersey jack now though.

man, destruk at VPF had SW1 largely emulated (including the extensive video modes), but lawyers forced him to pull the plug, apparently.
anyway yea, interesting situation... i guess if they access the mother through general purpose buses then there will always be replacements to be had. :confusedshrug:

yea, that would be awesome if there were more 'lawlor-like' lawlor tables. very few modern sterns approached the classic 90's williams, altho i guess PotC and LotR were in their league. haven't seen the recent ones, tho.
note to self: i need to watch walking dead one of these days! shaun of the dead, too. :S

Hell even the space jam pin I still have (which is largely let down by a lack of indepth game modes and weak software) would be a premium table for stern right now lay out and feature wise. Their prices go up yet their tables get simpler and more generic.

pretty sure i complained about this before, but williams holds an insane bunch of patents that severely limits modern PB companies from putting out reasonable product. it's just ridiculous.
i used to be head admin at the original VPF but have been out of the scene for many years at this point. but i recommend you hang with those pin-heads sometime, because you're pretty much guaranteed to find mates in your exact same situation.

I disagree with this statement because Ebola is a relatively difficult disease to contract. It doesn't spread via the air. It's not going to wreak havoc on a mass population with the medical infrastructure and first world health regulations and practices that we have.

It will through incompetence by workers in said fields, e.g. just look at how the healthcare staff FAILED TO REPORT that the Dallas patient was a Liberian and needs to be looked at with extreme scrutiny. :facepalm

I'm sure hospital protocol in every single hospital in the USA has been altered with extreme emphasis on something like this happening again. It's a minor fix. The virus isn't going to be spreading like some Walking Dead shit, calm down.

You see, I wouldn't have an issue with this if they were honest about it. Instead they present themselves as these noble outlets that you NEED to watch in order to be protected from the dangers of the world. The worst shit is how Fox News had "Fair and Balanced" as its motto for a good number of years, when even a toddler could tell you that was a massive load of crap.
Most of the news on TV is dumbed down for the lowest common denominator. A good number of those Opinion and Debate shows are faker than the WWE.

Whatever happeneed to swine flu? Wasn't that supposed to wipe us out?
From 12 April 2009 to 10 April 2010, we estimate that approximately 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (8868-18,306) occurred in the United States due to pH1N1. Eighty-seven percent of deaths occurred in those under 65 years of age with children and working adults having risks of hospitalization and death 4 to 7 times and 8 to 12 times greater, respectively, than estimates of impact due to seasonal influenza covering the years 1976-2001.
In our study, adults 65 years of age or older were found to have rates of hospitalization and death that were up to 75% and 81%, respectively, lower than seasonal influenza. These results confirm the necessity of a concerted public health response to pH1N1.

I agree that people get distracted by minor issues, but your end goal belief is we should be searching space? I think you are off. We (as in Earth) are so isolated in the scope of space, we have almost no hope of finding anything useful for multiple generations. Direct your cause towards all the people without water, or the murder and starvation on Earth. Space is interesting as hell, no doubt. But probably shouldn't be the priority.

This. The majority of our planet live in horrible conditions. We need to focus on fixing our own planet. The reason exploring space is less of a priority is because there's nothing around us. Sure we might solve some equations and theories but at the end of the day we have bigger problems.

Importing the brightest people from the third world into western countries and leaving the rest of them to live in squalor is not doing any good.
I know people think they're being "multicultural" and helping people live a better life, but what you're really doing is removing all the people that would help build these poor countries into something better.
Just imagine what England would look like if every single person who was smart enough to be a doctor, a scientist, educator or something else that benefits society left England to go to get educated and live in China. England would be a third world country with no economy or proper health services.

Why not both?
Stop the pointless wars and most importantly, stop giving a shit about these phakkits like ISIS. Ignore them and they'll likely behead a few other people and then do some other bad shit for a while, but who cares in regards to spending an assload of money to kill these ****ers while also killing innocent people in the process?
My stance on wars, ebola, and all of this shit is basically just like, it's going to happen, ignore it (not totally ignore, but like, don't make a big deal out of this shit), and focus on shit that matters.
Also those people need to get out of africa. It's a shithole there with basically no resources. Yet all we americans do is go over there and build them churches instead of schools.... :facepalm
It's no wonder africa is the most religious place in the world yet sounds like an awful place to live
