View Full Version : NBA 2K15 worth getting this year?
Are there a lot of improvements/new features or just a re-skinning of the previous version? Thinking about getting Live for a change... :confusedshrug:

it's worth it if you are getting it for the next gen consoles. If you are getting it for ps3 360 i'd say no.
source: i bought it for ps3.

Didn't they originally plan to release Live the same day as 2k15, but then had to push back their release date to "polish up" their game? Too many center court crucifixions again?
I loved Live back in the day. Live was hands-down number 1 from 95-2006ish for me. When 2k first came out, it was exclusive to Sega Dreamcast, which was essentially a disaster waiting to happen. But I'd say since 2006, or the advent of PS3, Live hasn't put out any product even comparable to 2k.

If one is hellbent on buying a basketball game this year, I believe 2K would be the product worth acquiring over Live. There hasn't been much released about Live at this point, and that's typically not a great thing. It looks like they could be on the right track, but are still likely multiple years away.
2K15 on the other hand, is once again experiencing heavy internet connectivity problems. Thankfully, their franchise mode is offline this year (it was forced online in 2K14) so MyLeague and Quick Games function regardless of internet connection. Also, rosters are now saved offline (again, they weren't last year) so I believe those are still accessible.
However, MyPlayer (or MyCareer) is still online dependent, even though the core of the mode is all played in an offline manner. As such, as long as the internet is struggling in 2K, players cannot play their MyPlayer and it seems they're having their face scans erased. And obviously, all online dependent activity is not functioning as long as connectivity issues exist. Even when the internet was working, I had heard many complaints about input lag (i.e. in online contests, a player would press the shoot button, but a response would be quite delayed, making effective gameplay difficult).

I'm getting it not just because of new features, but the online support community moves with every release and is gradually moving to next gen.
Last season it was hard enough trying to find decent rosters for the 2K14 in PS3. I can imagine it being much harder now

Dreamcast wasn't bad at all. All I have now is the gamecube and xbox 360. Not going to update my consoles since I literally haven't played my 360 for 4 months. Trying to get my hands on an old n64 and buy goldeneye, smash bros, and mario kart.

If you have a next gen console (PS4 or XBox One) the it absolutely is a must get. It's not nearly as on-line dependent, 30 team control is back, you can save rosters and MyLeague and MyGM files to the hard drive and there's a lot more customizable features for MyLeague/Association mode.
It is a HUGE upgrade over the shit 2K14 product they rushed to get out for the next gen consoles last year.
I'm going to get it for XB1 on Christmas. Worked out perfectly in the sense that this is my first Christmas having an XB1 and I only get a 2K game every other year and the one I have currently is 2k13.

Story on 2K's online issues thus far: http://kotaku.com/nba-2k15-players-report-widespread-problems-lost-progr-1644506972
Aside from online-related aspects, I've heard very good things.
So is 2k15 for PS3/360 pretty much the same as 2k14?

I got it for PC. I was expecting a hard copy disc, but instead got a card with a Steam code on it. Therefore, I had to download Steam, which is a very large program, just for 2K15. After it took 14 hours of install time with several unexpected stoppages (finally completed installation after about 2 days), I started the game up only for it to crash after 4 seconds. This went on for a couple more days until it finally kept running. The new menu was extremely confusing, and it took me almost 10 minutes to figure out how to navigate it properly. When I got in the game, it was running no more than ~10 FPS, and I was constantly getting blown by by centers like Hibbert because of my immobility due to ridiculous FPS. The sounds were very bumpy, to the point where i turned all sound off. I tried turning down the graphics as best i could. It ran smoothly after that, but half the players' skins were glitched out.
I haven't played it in 2 days now, instead reverting to 2K14 again. Unless something changes, this was the biggest waste of money on a game that I have ever spent.

So is 2k15 for PS3/360 pretty much the same as 2k14?2K15 introduced MyLeague, which is basically an offline franchise mode on steroids - options for everything, 30 team control, everything editable, and no real virtual currency integration. Rosters can now be saved locally as well (whereas last year, if the network was struggling, one would have to use default rosters, if they could play at all).
Gamers can scan their faces into MyPlayer mode (known as MyCareer). Actually looks really good when it works. Same lame linear storyline approach exists though. Players are no longer drafted, but rather sign a 10 day contract late in their first season. They have real player mentors who give them advice, and then Doc Rivers becomes your coach in year two no matter which team for which you play. Also, your player is kind of an unlikable jerk who uses forced slang.
Gameplay-wise, I've heard it's similar but with some tweaks to offenses in particular. Now, certain teams have base sets they run regardless of whether a specific play is called. For instance, instead of standing around idly with no play called, the Bulls may cycle through a loose triangle, whereas other clubs might stick to flex aspects. It looks like a nice way to keep players doing things worthwhile on offense.

The new interface is great.
Soundtrack is better than the garbage in 2k14 and 13.
The MyCareer storyline is epic.
You can scan your face in to the game.
They fixed a lot of the glitches.
It's actually a more difficult and realistic game so don't expect to average 110 ppg.
If you plan on playing online matches or MyPark, then don't get this game it's ****ing garbage online. Not only does the connection suck but the players are stiff as ****, and it's hard to play D.
So yea basically if you'rea MyCareer story type person it's amazing, if you like playing online it's complete garbage.
Already had to uninstall and reinstall the game. It would crash during the boot up screen.
Had a MyPlayer C up to 78 already, then, nothing... Sweet.

Playing exclusively MyCAREER right now until draft classes come out for MyLEAGUE/MyGM, and I'm enjoying it a lot so far.
The cut scenes are corny, your guy sounds like he never went to college and is cocky as hell, but other than that, everything else is so much better than 2K14. It only came out here yesterday, so I haven't had any server problems yet either. I'd recommend getting it.

They have Rick Barry in My Team mode also. I wish they would have put Rick Barry's championship Warriors team in the game, so I could put Rick Barry, Butch Beard, Jamal Wilkes, and Clifford Ray against Run TMC's Warriors.
They put George Muresaan in the game also, but still no Juwon Howard nor Chris Webber? I remember they had prime Bullets Chris Webber and prime Juwon Howard on 2k5 and they were ****ing unstoppable in the post offense together in that game.
2k12 was the best game retro legends wise though, because they had all the legends players that really mattered like Bucks era Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Buck's Kareem was an automatic 2 points in 2k12 and i missed using him in that game, because i could cheese through easy wins using his skyhook, and he can even knock down turnaround fadeaways in the post also. They had Orlando Woolridge in 2k12 also, and he was fun as hell to use because he would do a different type of dunk every time you dunked the ball with him.
Wish they would put the early 80s spurs with George Gervin, Larry Kennon, Mike Mitchell, Ron Boone, and Artis Gilmore in the game also. That would have been a really fun team to use also.
I wished that early 90s Nets team would have made the cut in 2k15 also. Prime Kenny Anderson, prime Derrick Coleman, Drazen Petrovic, and Chris Morris.
I just got it and i can't figure out how you insert a created player into the roster so you can use him in My League, etc. I made the roster changes but the new roaster won't load :oldlol: . What am i doing wrong?

Yeah.
My team mode is very addicting
so far my squad is
S Curry
M Ellis
Zach Lavine ( he's a monster dunking in this game), Harrison Barnes, T Ross ( dont know who to play at SF so been trying all 3
Amare
Andre drummond he can reb like a motha
From everything I've read, if you still have a PS3 or 360 its not worth it because they barely changed anything and they didn't get most of the new modes that the current gen systems go. I have 2K14 and have all the rosters from the guys at Operation Sports and their rosters are ALWAYS better than 2K's so technically I've been playing 2K15 for months already...

I've been playing a lot of MyTeam domination mode - now that I'm half way the 3 stars are getting hard to obtain in every game. I'm struggling with getting 700 points or more on a consistant basis.
I also find that playing D is frustrating since the CPU always holds on to the ball for 23 sec before hitting a contested mid-range jumper. Goes in 80-90% of the time.

This sounds like a classic case of 2K overdoing something. For years, people have complained that the CPU doesn't take enough mid-range jump shots, although if you use a custom roster, that problem doesn't exist.......
