Why do you feel the need to clog the forum up more with a thread like this? You do realise that nobody aside from a few trolls thinks that LeBron is even comparable to Jordan right?

You doing this is just giving the trolls what they want.

They use it differently. Jordan used it a lot to spin to create a little separation for a mid range jumper. Bron uses it going full speed on a break/to finish off a layup. He pretty rarely uses it while setting up for a jump shot.

Lebron has the ideally perfect height to weight ratio of the likes we have never seen which gives him the amazing ability to perfectly spin at full speeds with full agility, grace and balance to make the perfect spin move to either get his patented And1, an ATG dunk, or a crisp perfectly guided pass to a 3pt shooter.

MJ's spin moves may have looked flashier and more effortless but that was because he played back in a time before they had advanced defensive schemes and was skinnier which gave a false illusion.

You can't always go with the eye test which can play tricks on your mind. Sometimes you just have to believe when people say a certain player is better.

Jordan. Better footwork. Quicker. Faster foot speed. All sets the move up much more for devastating affect. Plus when MJ catches in the post his drop step spin is blinding fast. LeBron is good for his size though.

Aside from MJ doing it faster, Mj did it against multiple defenders and clogged lanes more frequently.

He used to avoid double teams and then spin and somehow manage to slither his way around 2 more defenders.

I wanted to post a spin move that Jordan did with the Dream Team, but couldn't find it.

I'll post this one, because I like that little extension he did with his left leg. I tried it and it's extremely effective. It's subtle, but amazing footwork, if you truly understand it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3tEmNWHHLg

Lebron is good for his size, but this is something that we shouldn't be comparing the two at.

They are both very elite, but Jordan's spins are quicker, more acrobatic and better balanced. Lebron's spins are also great and extremely quick for his size, but he doesn't have quite the same panache or unpredictability to them. Jordan can spin right into an acrobatic reverse lay up or another move, Lebron's more straightforward and basic in his finishes. Both are highly effective, but Jordan's spins are quicker and more creative.

This video is a good example of why I think Jordan's the "better" finisher as I stated in that thread. It's not just who has the higher statistical percentage as a finisher, particularly since Lebron got so many open fast breaks in Miami that enhanced his percentage over these last years. It's really who can produce the best and most versatile finishes against the best defenses concentrated to stop them. And Jordan is simply better than Lebron in this regard. Overall, He's simply a better, more determined, creative, acrobatic, versatile, and skilled scorer than Lebron. There's no shame in that, Jordan's better than practically anyone in that regard. That doesn't mean Lebron isn't obviously a tremendous scorer, one of the best statistically. That doesn't mean there aren't legitimate arguments that Lebron is better in other aspects of the game, and people can even argue (weakly in my opinion) that Lebron's the greater overall player. But when posters start implying that Lebron's a better scorer or is more offensively skilled, it's really getting just silly.

he covers more distance because he takes more steps. today, almost every drive to the basket with a spin move is pretty much a travel. notice in the jordan video, almost all his spin moves to the basket was done off one foot. right foot plant and spin. left foot plant, gather, and jump. you hardly ever see that kind of spin move anymore cuz players know they can take an extra step.

today, almost all spin moves comes off the extra step. right foot plant and spin. left foot plant, right foot plant and jumps off two feet. some players will stretch out the two foot plant to cover more distance. now the spin and jump off two feet im ok with. but the spin and stretching it out as far as possible where it kinda looks like he's goin off two feet, but is really taking an extra step and jumping off one foot, that is a bit much. its an obvious travel and they never call it.

Yup, exactly. Jordan really only did this type of spin once or twice in his career, and only later in his career. One was posted earlier, against NJ from 1998: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3tEmNWHHLg. Notice how much distance he covers due to the extra step/shuffle of the feet. That's the ONLY type of spin that today's players like Wade and Lebron do - they never or only rarely do the types of spins I posted of Jordan.

They're the same play, only Jordan has to finish over defenders because of no spacing - The more difficult finish required in the previous era was typical, because the brand of basketball in Jordan's era was a tougher brand of basketball.

Being able to run someone over with a full head of steam is not one of the more useful skills in basketball.

Jordan didn't need to get a good head of steam to run someone like Shaq over anyway.. off a spin move.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWW1V3TU5ls&t=4m08s

Or Barkely...

http://gifsforum.com/images_new/gif/other/grand/Jordan_dropstep_dunks_over_bar_8a0fc3e5bb54358a36b 23126fd6c46a0.gif

The more relevant factor is Lebron's lack of elite explosion, quickness, hangtime and skill in tight quarters, which is would prevent his spin move from being as effective as Jordan's was while playing big-boy basketball (you know, no spacing, no defensive 3 seconds, physicality, all contested two-pointers).

Im sorry Hoopz. Bron does have a legit argument at being a better passer than MJ, honestly it's very close.

But spin move?

No contest

Being able to run someone over with a full head of steam is not one of the more useful skills in basketball.

Jordan didn't need to get a good head of steam to run someone like Shaq over anyway.. off a spin move.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWW1V3TU5ls&t=4m08s

Or Barkely...

Lebron wasn't even going that fast. It was actually a slow spin for him:confusedshrug:

Lebron is bigger so it would make sense for him to not fit/slide through tight spaces but he actually does have those same type of hanging spin finishes. i'llhave to dig some up:pimp:

for now though

LOL Classic Lebron-Ball here (where lebron waits and waits for the perfect opportunity, while teammates get marginalized)

lebron even has to take time to set up his spin move.... :facepalm

Lebron lacks elite explosiveness, quickness, hangtime, and skill in tight quarters, so he won't be doing this at 35 of a spin move...
