Eh it's preseason. We knew all along that Kobe wasn't going to magically go back to his prime though but he will be better than this in the regular season. I don't' see how the lakers can try to compete until he retires though especially if all those "reports" were true about players not wanting to take second fiddle to him.

I've been a Los Angeles Laker fan since the late 1970s, yes I am old, and have watched 90% to 95% of their games over that span. That also means that I have watched at least 90 to 95% of every preseason, regular season and playoff game that Kobe Bryant has played.

And truth be told, he is a shell of his former self. No one should be under any type of illusion that he is returning this season anywhere near the player he was before tearing his Achilles a year and a half ago. Age, mileage and, unfortunately, multiple serious injuries have caught up to him. Yes, there will be glimpses of his former greatness here and there, but they will only be glimpses and short-lived.

It was a great run but he will no longer be an impact player that he used to be. He was an elite player for 15 or 16 seasons, but he isn't that player anymore.

That looks like average Tobe to me. Not sure what the big deal is he's been doing that consistently since 2011.

Actually, Kobe Bryant has averaged 27 points, five rebounds, five assist on 45% shooting over his last three seasons from 2011 until his Achilles injury at the end of 2013.

oh the horror
10-13-2014, 12:00 AM
Aside from his obvious decline is the fact that there's no nick young, Xavier Henry and Lin. These guys can be threats offensively.

Tonight they merely swarmed Kobe and dared others to shoot. Kobe at his age and physical condition shouldn't and can't be "the guy" for prolonged periods of time anymore.

This is why they won't be the worst team in the league, to be honest though they probably would be better off if they were as I don't see how this line up can do anything besides first round exit AT BEST if they get lucky.

He hasn't played in a year in a half. So forget about father time, the rust will be there for a while, and the timing won't be there for a while. That would be the case even if he was 27.

Though his current physical condition and age will make it significantly more harder than if he was 27. So yeah, Kobe's best years are far behind him.

amazes me that people celebrate when they feel a player can no longer perform due to injuries/age. just screams of insecurity. if that is the case, it's something to be lamented, no celebrated. He's a true great, not many left of his ilk, but chumps like you are so busy hating that they miss out.

in the real world, he'll be fine. Just a preseason game. But feel free to act like a fool.

I hate injuries. they are the only thing in sports that I can't stand. wish every team could be at full strength every game... in all sports. but it is what it is. I never cheer for, or hope for a player to be injured or taken out of the game for that reason... even players I despise like Richard Sherman.

But an actual injury and cramping are two different things. there's no real damage to the athlete's body that prevents him from competing with a cramp. go to the sidelines, work it out/hydrate and get your butt back in the game.

a person cheering because they think a player can't play anymore because of injury is quite different than someone saying man up, get right and get back in the game from a cramp. I've played through cramps a ton of times.

Pain and injury are two different things. you can play through pain, you can't play through injury.

All I know is that Kobe was playing some of his best basketball before he got injured, and at the ripe old age of 34. Father Time catches up with everyone but I don't think he's there with kobe just yet. There does seem to be quite a decrease of pep in his explosiveness though and we'll see how he plays but IMO he probably just needs to get his legs up to the speed of the game.

And just to be clear, I've never been a fan of kobe. Seriously, like ever. Obviously it's easy to respect his game, but to root for him, no way. But damn if he isn't one of the hardest working players ever and to count out a player like that, man, I don't know.

NZStreetBaller
10-13-2014, 02:46 AM
At this stage of kobe career with his age and his team not being as stacked as some of the others, he's really no threat to anybody in terms of preventing other winning mvps or championships and I dont expect him to be. But I just cant understand people who want to see him play like asss. The guy has had a hell of a career and has nothing left to prove imo. But its still good to see him out there doing what he loves to do. Unfortunately for him hes cursed where I know he'll literally break every bone in his body to try and get the chip. But thats the beauty of that fire inside of him.

I give him 10 games before he goes down again. That's how much i respect his willpower and dedication. He's the kind of player who won't listen to his body, who will push himself to the breaking point. His tenacity is amazing, his fighting spirit 2nd only to Jordan, and his warrior face unequalled. He will go kicking and screaming before he retires. That's Kobe, the bravest warrior ever.

What do you base this BS on? 10 games before he goes down? He looked bad tonight, but it's PRESEASON, and the Lakers have been running hard, including practicing on Gameday. None of this shit matters. Ya'll remember Derick Rose killing it in preseason last year, then he struggled like hell comes season start, then he got injured again, you can't predict this shit
