Dwyane Wade is the greatest Heat because of his longevity and success there. I got LeBron at #2. The reason why I have him at that spot is because he only played in Miami for 4 season. He did achieve a lot there, yes, but his time there was short. If he played a couple more seasons in Miami and continued to have great success then he would've easily been the greatest Heat ever.

Yea, in house product too. That counts for something. But Miami is really like LA in a lot of ways that it's a tourist destination, and kind of like a basketball mercenary franchise. They lure established superstar talents from other teams to their squad based on the location, night life, weather, women, etc.

Sort of. LA is a basketball town, though. Thick and thin.

I remember watching a "Kitchen Nightmares" episode where Gordon Ramsay and the restaurant he was fixing hosted a charity event w/ the Heat, downtown. UD and James Jones participated - and nobody, with a crowd of at least a couple hundred, seemed to recognize them. "Where's Dwyane Wade?!" :oldlol:

Back in the summer of '07, I also hit up a sports bar in South Beach (amazing restaurants and clubs on the strip). Talked Heat hoops w/ a few cuban locals that had no idea who anyone outside of Wade and Shaq were (both wearing Wade jersey's :oldlol:).

Miami has amazing culture, beautiful women and beaches..but a sports town? Not in my lifetime.

Wade gets the nod because of his longevity, that's basically it...Miami faithfuls stick on this like no tomorrow. He had a superb 2006 Finals, a good couple peak years in 2009-2010.

However Lebron is a very close 1b IMO, if not #1, simply due to his peaking during the 4yr tenure in Miami. You can't ignore 2/4, 2 FMVP and 2 MVPs, and not to mention smaller accolades like the 27-game win streak in which he led. There hasn't been many players to do what Lebron did in 4yrs while a Miami Heat.

Everyone just overlooks Lebron because he's still "hated" by many...anyone else wouldn't be discredited to the degree they do with Lebron.

April 12th, 2003
"In honor of your greatness and for all you've done for the game of basketball - and not just the NBA, but for all the fans around the world - we want to honor you tonight and hang your jersey, No. 23, from the rafters," Riley said at midcourt. "No one will ever wear No. 23 for the Miami Heat. You're the best."

Miami has been, and will forever be Wade County.

He's been an integral piece for all three of the franchise's NBA titles. By far the greatest Finals performance in the franchise's history. I mean, it's not even close. He's also played a heavy hand in this run of the last 4 years too.

Exceptional player.

being a Miami native, "Wade County" was non-existent the past 4-years, outside of maybe a game here/there when Wade would shine. Lebron overshadowed that immensely during his tenure here. it's back now, and barely since Bosh is really our leading force for the Heat, since Lebron's return to Cleveland.

as far as it not being close...it actually, really is close. It all comes down to subjective and emotional feelings towards Lebron when ranking him low as a Heat...had there not been so much attention around him, he would be hero-ed throughout. Wade has longevity in the Heat uniform, that's it. Everything else, as far as the game goes, Lebron has trumped Wade.

Nash
10-15-2014, 09:36 AM
It is Wade.

But Lebron is the best player to play there.

Just check Miami Heat history top 10. Lebron is top 10 in almost every category in only 4 years, unbelievable.

He's the 2nd best player to put on a Heat uni. Shaq is #1 (if we're going by all-time rankings and not how good they were when they played there).

Wade is basically the reason Miami got Lebron & Bosh. If Wade bolted in 2010, Miami would have been a crap lottery team for a while.
