How the FAULK does he find the time to play League of Legends... much less enough to be damn good at that game?
I don't know how many people here have played things like DotA, LoL, HoN, etc... these aren't games that you play a few times and can do well. It's not like "my friend picked up Super Smash Bros/Call of Duty and is really good". There is no button mashing. There is no beginners luck. These are games where your average opponent is a 17 year old kid hopped up on 12 cans of mountain dew, or a Korean kid who's been playing for 18 hours straight in an internet cafe. The people who play these games at even a mediocre level devote enough time at least equivalent to a part time job.
It's honestly absurd that Hayward is a pro NBA athlete and also pretty skilled at League of Legends. You shouldn't have the time or talent to be good at two things on such opposite ends of the spectrum. Obviously it would be cooler if Hayward was a great guitarist or something in addition to bball, but the degree of difficulty here is really quite impressive.

I mean sure there are exceptions like Javale McGee (just guessing) who wouldn't do well and a plethora of other knuckleheads, but for the most part having the reactions, dexterity, competitiveness to even play in the MLB, NBA, etc >>>>>>>> any "pro gamer".

Yeah, I dunno about that man. That's just ****ing wrong. Athleticism dexterity doesn't translate over into keyboard and mouse dexterity. Even though imo sports >>> video games (and probably everyone on this board agrees) it takes a VERY different skillset and type of brains to be good at chess vs. basketball vs. Halo vs. race car driving vs. shooting.
If that logic was correct then athletes would be amazing musicians and artists if they spent 1/20th of the time that pianists and sculptors etc spent due to their "natural dexterity". It just doesn't work like that, at all. Plus, MANY athletes talk about playing LOTS of Halo/Call of Duty/NBA2k/Madden during the offseason or even during the season. Certainly 1/20th of what a pro gamer would spend.
All of which ties into how Hayward's League of Legends prowess is pretty ridiculous.

Lets be serious for a second here. So called 'pro gamers' or wannabe pro gamers are the least skilled people in society because they can't even get a real education or real job so they are the bottom 10% of society in terms of skill sets. A pro sports player and their mental fortitude, determination, real life skills, team work/communication/social skills, constant hard work, sticking to a routine and pushing themselves etc would be the top 10% of the bracket. So its not hard for a real professional sportsman to engage in minimum effort to do better then your 12hour a day armchair 'pro gamer'.

just being curious as ive never played the game, for a guy with average talent, how much time does it take to get plat1(aka gordon hayward) and how much time does it take to be "good" like you said?It all depends on what type of person you are and how much time you have. I've been playing for about 2 years and i'm Plat 5 atm, but I was a piece of shit when I started out. I would say about a year minimum, but it always depends on various factors like free time and mentality. Guys who play professionally spend a few years most likely though.

the reaction and dexterity of pro gamers are 100% better most of anyone in the NBA. The top tier starcraft players' ability to multi task + decision making in a split second and performing under pressure is not something that most pro ballers can achieve.

Coming from someone who enjoys watching championship-level StarCraft, and enjoys watching basketball even more, I can honestly tell you that the gap in skill between Lee Young Ho and the average human at what he does is even greater than that of Michael Jordan and basketball. I know that's probably hard to comprehend, let alone believe, but it's true. Pro gamers (depending on the game) can be some of the most impressively-skilled people alive.

DotA 2 is so much better than LoL. It's truly free to play, it's more challenging and rewarding, the community is less bad and skill ceiling higher.
The learning curve is ridiculously tough, though. You can play 1000 hours and still be a complete noob.

One friend told me the gameplay was way different but that playing LOL after DOTA would be way easier. I also highly doubt that the community is any worse than LOL is tbh, that's just how it is for most of the online gaming communities.

There's nothing "impressive" about that. What are you even trying to say? Obviously the skill gap is different due to the complexity of a game like StarCraft.
The average human has zero idea how to play StarCraft. Any idiot can pick up a basketball and grasp the basic concepts.

I'd bet that the average CS pro has a faster reaction time than the average NBA, or NFL player. I'm absolutely certain that they're faster, and more accurate with a mouse than any pro athlete. Most of them probably have better visual acuity as well. If they weren't competitive, they wouldn't spend 8 hours a day practicing for competitions, despite little expectation of financial compensation.

All of the same hard work, routine, and communication skills that are required to succeed in team sports, are also necessary in team games.

I think people underestimate athletes reaction time. Sports Science did an interesting test, with two blinking lights. Don't remember which nba player they got, but the player had to sprint towards the two lights, and one of them would blink and you need to change directions and run towards it, then they compared it to an average person doing the same, the player's reaction time was much faster.
No i how good the reaction time is for top LOl or WOW players, but it's absurd to use a blanket statement that all athletes reaction time is slower than LOl players.

It doesn't tell us much.
I'm watching the other reaction time segments, and none of them are actually testing visual reaction time.
They test a drag racer, but the lights change at a consistent interval (I think it was 400 ms), so it's a test of timing, not reacting.
They test a hockey goalie, but they use another player, instead of a machine to fire the puck, so he can see the wind up. He displays some impressive reflexes, instinctively moving his hand where it needs to be in order to intercept the puck, but it's still not a test of reaction time.

You're full of shit because you can't even play ranked with only 60 games under your belt. Things have changed. Dota 2 is definitely more strategic, and if you have a team that wants to fight, you'll be fighting constantly.
Playstyles can vary wildly in Dota.
Edit: First part sounded harsh... but anyway, you can't even play in a ranked match until you're level 13 which means like... 100+ games at least. So the competition is much tougher now than whenever you tried it.

"like 60 games" :oldlol: you need over 150 games to unlock matchmaking
ROFL you only need 40 games when I played.
And now you only need level 13 which is probably 20 - 30 games if you buy battle booosters.
You can even add me to check my MMR
You're full of shit because you can't even play ranked with only 60 games under your belt. Things have changed. Dota 2 is definitely more strategic, and if you have a team that wants to fight, you'll be fighting constantly.
Playstyles can vary wildly in Dota.
Edit: First part sounded harsh... but anyway, you can't even play in a ranked match until you're level 13 which means like... 100+ games at least. So the competition is much tougher now than whenever you tried it.
No. I'm not shitting you I really got 5.2k mmr you can even add me to check.
I played when you only need 40 games to play ranked mode.
And level 13 too is easy to get if you buy battle boosters.

This my be true in the US. Which is why US pro gamers can't compete on the world stage. Because somewhere like Korea it's a legit way to make money and the whole attitude towards pro gaming is more professional.
