Doubt he ever sees a minute of playing time but pretty cool nonetheless. He was making it rain during summer league.

gimmick

Earl Boykins was a 15/4 guy at his peak, Bogues was 10/10.

But I'll tiptoe around the elephant in the room on this one, I don't disagree about the gimmick part.

Guys like Nate Robinson and Earl Boykins have/had a what, 6 foot 2+ inch armspans despite their heights? They're short but they've got those typical NBA proportions, gifted long arms and/or incredible vertical leaps to help them have a fighting chance doing things like play NBA level defense and cover a larger area than their height so they aren't totally useless on that end (though relative to other NBA players they almost are useless on that end outside of steals). JJ barea is the only guy I know of who has less than a 6 foot armspan in the NBA. Togashi, if he's built anything like a typical Japanese person, only has the same armspan as his height. 5-6 armspan in the NBA means his ONLY role will be on the offensive end, he will always be a huge huge liability on defense if he gets any minutes at all. Who's shots is he going to be able to contest? Even Nate Robinson will have a tremendous reach advantage over him :lol

Ok, to this day, I still dont understand how Barea is able to do ANYTHING on the court against NBA players.

Seriously, any time I see him step on the court, none of his positive contributions make any sense to me. I literally don't understand what I'm seeing. And apparently his physical tools are shit on top of his lack of athleticism. Can someone explain how the **** JJ Barea was a strong contributor off the bench to a championship team and guys like Starbury and Gilbert Arenas are in China. No, I don't really care about the guys playing in China but how the **** is Barea.... anything.

Ive always thought that the problem wasnt the offence for short guys, as long as you are fast and skilled and have crazy arc on your shot or super fast release, then its not a big problem. the problem is the defence( as others have stated) be it length or strength, I mean just imagine him guarding russel westbrook

I hate barea's attitude and play, but truth is that demeanor and psychology made him succesful in all the way to the NBA. In my entire life, I've never seen any Asian player in any sport have that fire. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't make ignorant ass claims. It's one thing to say something like 'the best athletes are black', or "there tend to not be TOO many Asian athletes with a highly competitive fire" it's another (retarded) thing to say "no asian player in ANY sport is as competitive as JJ barea" :facepalm

let me put it this way, yes there definitely are better individual players then them, but because people here are much shorter in Asia, so we sorta have to downgrade on size. meaning players that would play center here would probably be playing SF or PF in the NBA. and because of this, the skillset doesnt translate, since pgs cant play any smaller, at least they are playing to their natural size.

i'd be more convinced that this wasn't a gimmick if it weren't for the fact that he averaged less than 2 points a game and less than 1 assist per game for a terrible Japanese team in the asian games this summer
