Check twitter.

Broussard says that he has talked to bunch of execs in the NBA and they say Kobe is done and that he'll be a 17ppg player.

But, Byron Scott says that Kobe will play between 30-40 minutes next season.

inb4 Kobe averages 25ppg

you already now Kobe is motivated as hell hearing stuff like that. Hope he proves them wrong.

I would guesstimate if he plays near 40 mpg and averages 25+, the team will be a top 5 lottery team.

If any player averaged 17 ppg, would anyone consider that player done? Sounds like they can still score to me.

25 a game would really surprise me. 17-18 ppg sounds more realistic.

Wizards version of Jordan is pretty much the ceiling for Kobe at this point. He'll probably just get hurt again though.

Lmao...

If Kobe scores more than 20ppg then he's doing it on sub 40 shooting. Dude can't get past anyone anymore

oh the horror

And if he's a 17ppg player they'll be slightly better than a lottery team?

Dude the team is garbage. This is a Kobe farewell tour at best.

I think Kobe will be just fine, it's the Lakers Im worried about. This team looks like shit.

Kobe just effortlessly dropped 27/5/4/1 in 28 minutes against the Jazz, and most of the time he was standing around and he bricked 4 FTs in a row even...And if you watched the pre-season games, he doesn't even bring up the ball, hasn't really done much on his own on the perimeter, just stayed on the wing and got in the post, made some plays in transition.

Once the season begins, y'all gonna be eating crow this time around. Kobe had basically 10 months to get back from his knee injury and has been beating all the young guys in conditioning drills, so you know he still has the stamina/conditioning to play those minutes in the NBA. He really hasn't had to use his vertical to score yet, but last game he had a decent amount of lift on his shots.

Now play him 32-35 mpg, give him 20 shots a game and tell me he's not putting up at least his career averages...please.

Kobe just effortlessly dropped 27/5/4/1
Hmm....
The team lost by 30 and it was over by the second quarter when Kobe went 2-8. Not exactly an effortless performance.

In any case your post highlighted a real porblem, over reliance on Kobe. He's gonna be worn out at 32-25 minutes a game and 20 shots. He needs to take a step back, but this Laker team is so terrible it isnt possible.

This team is not playing to win pre-season games...The 2013 Lakers team that made the Playoffs (even with all the injuries that followed) lost every damn pre-season game (lost by 30+ to the Jazz then iirc and was also blown out big by the Warriors), and that was before the Nash injury that pretty much ended his career.

Kobe started off 3-13 and made 7 of his last 10 shots. It was a typical Kobe game, where he would suck for the first half of the game then come back and make it look effortless. But again, they didn't play to win and we missed like half of our key guys out there, so obviously we were going to struggle in terms of the game score.

Jazz had all their guys playing and basically everyone had a decent showing while we missed 6 key players, and our bench barely got burn outside of Ellington(31 min) and Davis(20), Randle played only 11 minutes too

this is not our regular season rotation. I don't see why people continue to overreact to the pre-season every year..

Yeah the team got blown out, but Kobe had the best +/- and put up basically a point for every minute average.

That 2013 Laker's team was serviceable.

That 2013 Laker's team was serviceable.

And they got sonned by the same teams in the pre-season, just checked up. Jazz won by 34 and GSW won by 27...:oldlol:

and 2013 Lakers were garbage outside of Dwight, Kobe, Meeks and Nash(when he played). We had d-league level talent starting for us at times, since all PGs and big men were injured at one point, remember the line-up vs San Antonio on the road that year? Dwight, Pau, Nash were out, Kobe still made it a game in the 4th, hitting a near half-court jump shot (shot from the Spurs logo)...

Anyways, point is that some pre-season games don't mean a thing when the season is 82 games and half our guys didn't even play.

on the games he will play.

if he exerts that much effort, he's gonna be a cripple again

Why will his assists increase? Who will make the shots, Boozer? And he won't average 5 boards with Hill/Davis/Randle/Boozer. 22/4/4 on 43/30/82

No matter how many shots Kobe takes the Lakers have a good chance to become a lottery team again. Kobe is still the team's best player so don't make it sound like the team will be worse off for Kobe shooting a lot.

And Kobe has stated that he's going to focus more on efficiency this year so I don't expect him to be taking a crazy number of shots.

because he can...... he's smarter then people think. he knows that hes not going to be able to dominate one on one matchups anymore so i see him looking to draw defenders and offload alot. something like this:

I can see stuff like this happening alot. especially in the earlier minutes of games

Kobe can become Passbe and be an 8APG 19ppg 49% shooter.

That would make him one of the elite offensive SGs in the league. And idiots say he's done?:facepalm

5 points per quarter gives you 20 a game. I have a hard time believing Kobe, even at his advanced age and injury, can't do that. I think he's going to be in the post a ton this year.... I'll say 22ppg on 45% in 33 minutes a night give or take....

Kobe has always been a low-efficiency chucker

instead of averaging 26-28 ppg at 45-46% shooting he will now shoot 42-44%...efficiency dips a little because the tough/contested shots he takes also take athleticism, and he's lost some of it.

But Scott has already done a great job. Kobe is not handling the ball too much and hasn't been forced to play a lot of point, which means he'll have more energy to focus on other areas. He's mostly playing off-ball.

As stated before, I'm not worried about Kobe. He will get his points. Rest of the team looks like shit though it may look a little better when Lin, Nick, Xavier and Ryan Kelly come back. I'm not counting on Nash to contribute.
