That is, unless Danny blows everything up and trades Rondo, green, Bass, Thornton and all other expirers during the season. (which is probably going to happen lol). But stay with me for a sec.

Yes, the Celtics still lack a rim protector, length and maybe some guys, who can create their own shot(and make it), but I believe bill Simmons is wrong.

Stevens is going to coach much better this season after his rookie year.

Olynyk, Sully, Bradley should be at least marginally better than last season.

Rondo will hopefully be healthy for the whole season and back to his best.

Elite backourt defense with Rondo , Bradley and smart.

Elite shooting and passing in their frontcourt with sully and olynyk.

Thornton is a great heat check guy off the bench.
Turner can help with ball handling duties off the bench in the second unit. .
Young can knock down shots.

This team can win 35+ games and be in the top 10 in the East.

I think you are literally overrating every single one of your players. Your team has ZERO interior defense, the only offense they get from their bigs are shooting 3s and long twos.

I LOVE Stevens and think he will be a top 5 coach within the next 3-4 years. But there is no talent on this team. How many of your players would be rotation players for Chi/Cle/LAC/GSW/OKC?

I might complain if I thought the Cs were good but when the best-case scenario is looking like 35 games it doesn't bother me if someone says the team is only good for 20.

Sulinger is a great post up player. not sure what you have been watching.

Rondo, Bass, Bradley, Sullinger, and Green would make it onto rotations of playoff teams, disregarding logjams and fit.

There is no shot-blocking, no one looks like they can average 20, and a lack of experience. But there are plenty of perimeter players that would make rotation on playoff teams and there are three solid pfs in Olynyk Sullinger and Bass. We're looking at 1 star (who is on the trading block) and a bunch of guys that are ok.

I like Bradley as a defensive player but he needs to improve his offense more. As is he is a decent backup on a good team that is just trying to defend second teamers. Sully, Olynyk and Green are a dime a dozen guys. Decent players but no real improvement on replacement level players. Bass might be a small contributor to a playoff team in a specialist role.

I bet Sully has more 3pt FGA this season than FG from post ups.

They have a lot of pieces but none of them are very good. The ones that look to be good are too young to make a notable impact on win totals. Ainge has his work cut out for him.

Sully gonna average at least 17 PPG this season. Also, Smart is a future 20 PPG player.

I could see Sullinger getting 17 as this team will be desperate for scoring but that doesn't mean he could be a 20 ppg scorer right now in a sensible way. He's got strength and skills but no explosion or length.

Smart? He should be a good point guard in a few years but 20 ppg would require a massive improvement as a shooter, the kind of improvement that can't be predicted. Even if he develops a jumper he could top out at 17 and 8. And there would be no shame in that but it's not 20ppg.

As a Celtics fan IDK what other Celtics fans see in Sully that I'm missing. He is a mediocre 3 point shooter and the only reason they even have him shooting threes is because hes so undersized and easy to block at the rim when using his post moves that despite how skilled he is in the post it just doesn't lead to effective scoring opportunities. I just don't see Sully as getting much better then he is unless he really improves his shot and gets quicker by cutting some of the extra fat.

I honestly think Olynyk has a theoretically higher ceiling. He can become a pretty damn effective stretch 4 with some good passing skills and if he bulks up he could become a passably (tho not good) post defender. Something like a Frye with much better passing and maybe (a big maybe) slightly better D.

To me I see a stronger, but way less explosive Bledsoe when I see Smart. I also think Smart will have better handles this year then Bledsoe had his rookie year and more of a PG's sense, but ultimately I see him as a combo guard that can't be the main offensive creator for the teams offense.

You are going to need to state more than vague general statements to be convincing. :oldlol:

I agree that none of these guys are overall great. They would all fall around the tier of average starter. However, all provide something of value to a good team.

Bradley could be a solid 3 and D guy. He didn't get his great defensive reputation by only guarding bench players.

Green has skills in a lot of facets of the game. He can shoot, post up, attack the basket, and he's not a bad defender. He doesn't specialize in any of those, but he's a player you wouldn't mind on the bench.

Sully is mostly offense, there's no denying that. He can be a bench big for a playoff team. He's good at midrange shots and post ups. He's also a good rebounder. Time will tell if he will be a dangerous threat from 3. You can't really find a public source that has post up stats so it's unlikely that bet would resolve. The number of 3s he takes doesn't change the fact that he's a talented post up player.

Bass has a reliable midrange jumper. Can be aggressive down low. He's very mobile also on defense. 2nd big off the bench.

Jeff Green is a guy I find a little frustrating. If he had the mentality of a true scorer like Paul Pierce I could see him being that 20+ scorer, he has the skills and athletic ability. But he doesn't have the mentality of someone that takes over games.

Agree completely. That Heat game where he went off driving on them like 15times for dunks or making plays is the Jeff green I think Ainge thought he was gonna get. A guy who has really good athleticism and decent enough handles and skills to be able to be a number 1 type scorer, or atleast a quality number 2, that could also make plays for other players.

Another thing about Green that bugs me is his allergic reaction he seems to have that prevents him from using his size and athletic advantages to try and go after rebounds. He only gets like 3 or 4 a game when he should be 5 or 6 and maybe even 7.

I'm also disappointed with his defense a little too. Right now hes only average on D but he should be borderline elite with his physical tools

I think Ainge traded for Green at first to try and play the posey role off the bench and he hoped by now with grooming and long post series runs he would have turned into a 20ish ppg scorer who would also throw up 5 apg and 6 rpg with very good defense.

I've unfortunately watched a few Celtics preseason games and all Sully really does is shoot 3s. Which I don't understand because he can play in the post. Yeah, he's a bit undersized. So is Milsap and ZBo. If he turns into Frye then I see no value in him whatsoever, unless the guy is knocking them down at 45%+.

I thought Zeller and KO have looked good. Smart as well, as long as he isn't shooting 3pters.

The team needs shooters (or Stevens needs to change his gameplan up) and probably a long, defensive, center. The main I problem I've noticed is that the players don't fit. KO/Sully gives not so much defensively and they both play outside. Rondo/Smart both can't shoot. Turner is just a really weird fit on any team, imo, and not sure what's up with Green. Can James Young play the 3?

I think the Cs have a good team. They have a lot more talent than I thought. Still they're not a playoff team, but I don't think they are a bottom feeder and I'm sure they'll get some big wins.

35 wins in the east might be 8th seed.
