What are you learning it for? Have you ever programmed?

Im studying Computer Science at Uni. I have never really programmed before so I am pretty much starting from scratch. My teacher is pretty terrible at teaching and the way he teaches makes me think that he assumes we know quite a bit about Java programming already, the stuff he talks about seems pretty advanced.

What's he talk about?

It's cool that you seem to want to learn how to program on your own, though. You can probably get through all those vids in a month or so. You'll be way ahead of most people in your class.

He was talking about concurrency last week. I actually transferred to my university from somewhere else where the syllabus was a little different so I am actually probably behind the rest of the class when it comes to Java right now.

lmao, I have been programming for a year and have never ever heard of concurrency...

I think it's about software design. Like, some programs are "concurrent" with regard to their memory or CPU usage (not sure which), but, oh my god, is that irrelevant to a beginner.

Cool. You ever try to create anything like a game?

Yeah I had no freakin idea what was going on :oldlol:

Like I said he probably thinks I know WAY more than I actually do.

Nah not in Java. I was working on an app this summer, but real life and school got in the way.

I made a little trivial game text-based tic-tac-toe in C++ when I was learning it earlier this year. I think that's the only "game" I've ever made.

Actually nvm I have made another text-based card game in python. Nothing cool tho.

EDIT: Actually a lot of text-based games now that I think about it lol

I went into Cisco classes not even knowing what a switch was, and two years later I'm the lead network engineer at a global billion dollar company.

Rags to Riches, homie.

Don't know shit about Java though, OP's on his own. :oldlol:

The green typeface is from 4chan, not insidehoops dot com.

Hope this helps.

Namaste.
