View Full Version : Where will Lebron rank of the GOAT list upon retirement?

A: 9-11;
B: 6-9; or
C: 4-6
My favorite player, but I can't see him passing MJ (GOAT); Kareem, or Russell. And although everyone else is potentially in play, he will need 2-3 more rings (with great stats and FMVPs) to get to the 4-6 range. I currently have him at 10 (one spot below Kobe (though I think he's a better player) and right above Hakeem).

How about asking this, you know...when he retires? Not when he has years ahead that are undetermined.

Well, he's already more impressive than Magic and Bird, so I'd put him in the top 5-6 range already. If he gets another MVP and ring (for a total of 5 MVPs and 3 rings), he's a lock for top 3-4, imo.

That would be too easy and make too much sense.

3 looks to be the max as of now... I think he can make it there, though.
Don't see what Bird/Magic have to hold him back.

3-6. Most likely top 5. He's already #9.

This.
Do you have him ranked over Kobe, and Hakeem yet? If not ... what's the reasoning?
I mean he's still only 29. Still in the prime of his life / career. He'll really slow down by 32 - 33. Until then he has the oppotunity to win a few more MVPs, and rings. On a team with offensive fire power, he can even snag a DPOY if he tries.
LeBron will most certainly end up top five all-time.

I think 5-7 is most realistic spot for Lebron and maybe few spots higher before it's all said and done.

He still has potential to be "GOAT", but I have him realistically top 5.

How is this guy not banned yet? Every time he posts he's cursing someone out like there's no tomorrow and telling people to commit suicides. That's all he does.

Hard to say. Gotta factor in how he degrades the game with flops though. I realize others do it, but the league leader should set the example.

Behind Wilt.
Serious question, what makes Lebron better than Oscar at this point? If you say 2 > 1, explain how Robertson was supposed to win a title in the 60s.

Better Scorer, rebounder, and defender.

I think there are tiers of great players, I have a hard time comparing individual players. Some players are legends and I think Lebron could be in that tier.
Wilt
Russell
Big O
West
Bird
Magic
Kareem
MJ
He is not in this group yet, but he could be by the time he is done.

Through their first 11 years Big O had a higher pts per game and rebound per game average.

That's true, and though I don't believe in just scaling a player's stats down with pace, I don't think we should just ignore it.

I do. My list:
Jordan
KAJ
Russell
Magic
Wilt/Bird/Shaq in some order
Duncan (#8)
Lebron
Kobe
Hakeem
Lebron's huge edge in MVP's and statistical domination over Kobe put him ahead imo.

In sports, I think guys like MJ, Ruth, and Ali are practically untouchable for the GOAT in their sports. U have guys who are close in talent or maybe just as good. But it's their overall impacts and career resumes that puts them over the top. The fact that MJ overtook Magic and Bird WASN'T expected when he was drafted in '84. Lebron from day one was crowned to be one day on a head on collision with Bird as the GOAT SF. And the fact that he lived up to those expectations is epic.
I think Bron could end up as high as #2 on the GOAT list if he can win at least a total of 4 rings. Even if he doesn't win as many rings as MJ, his career numbers could be 30,000+ points, 10,000+ rebounds, and 10,000 + assists. Nobody HAS EVEN COME CLOSE to that kind of dominant all around production. He already has multiple rings, MVPs, and gold medals. And is also the most versatile player of all time.

He's hardly the worst flopper in the league and he doesn't even flop that much.

West and Robertson clearly didn't have a bigger impact on the floor than Shaq or Duncan. :facepalm

Let me make it clear. My Legends tier doesn't include any active player. Kobe, Lebron, Duncan, may make it when their work is finished. I don't include Shaq because even though I think he had one of the top five peaks ever. I thought a lot of that was because he was allowed to knock people over in order to score. If they had called those one thousand offensive fouls on him the I would be good with him.
