View Full Version : Kevin Love, third option with a bullet, a Laker sooner rather than later

Ya heard it here first.
No one wants to play the Chris Bosh role, not even someone like Love who is kind of suited to it.
Stars want shine, especially in their prime, and Love isn't buddy-buddy with LBJ and Kyrie, so why stay and damage your brand getting a rep as someone who loses in finals (and someone who will take the heat for it).
Cleveland better win now, because the bench will get older, Love will leave, and that third wheel role will look less and less appealing.
Should have kept the kids, at least they'd work hard and be on a 4 year leash.
OH CLEVELAND!
lalalalalalalalalalalalalaLAKERS and Love! a true Hollywood ending to the 'Love' triangle. Bring back a Phil disciple, Love would be great in the triangle.

I think Love will be gone too. But the Lakers are still a long shot to get him unless we pull off some magic in the draft & finally get a big FA to sign here first.
I think NY is a long shot too because Melo & Love in the triangle will be disastrous.

:oldlol: When will you silly Laker fans learn, players don't leave Lebron. Chris Bosh risked losing a max contract to keep being Lebron's 3rd wheel.
But go ahead and keep pretending that Love would rather be known as the guy who can't make the playoffs than a guy who loses in the Finals.

That's right, LeBron leaves them for brighter pastures.

I kinda agree.. Love can accept his robert parish role on these teams.. just rebound hard, make some great outlet passes.. do whats best for the team. But hell never be a 'star' again.

Right, but that's because Lebron leaves quicker, it's hard to out-leave him.
said this before and i'll say it again. Love skillset can take being 2nd or 3rd option. Stop comparing to Bosh, Bosh needed the touches to be useful. Love is elite 3 point shooter, rebounder and big man passer, he's not dependent on touches to produce those things. For example, even though Love struggled last night he still was useful grabbing 13 rebounds and 3 assists. Compared to Bosh who was useless if his shot wasn't going for him and there was no way he'd ever grab 13 rebounds.
Love got his touches and points with Minnesota but that didn't lead to anything. Pretty sure if there is anyone tired of individual glory in this league its Kevin Love.

I think you are essentially right, Love is a better version for LeBron of what bosh did in Miami, in that Love is better suited for that role.
BUT the OP makes an interesting point, I don't think Love will return to LA (unless he signs a one year deal with Cleveland and goes after once The Lakers clear Kobe etc. and have money again), BUUUUUT, the next contract is Kevin Love's money for life contract and I am not sure he wants third option money, he wants max top ten money and it might not be the highest sum in Cleveland, new collective bargaining agreement and cap not withstanding.

This. It wasn't like he didn't get any opportunities. He missed a couple of three pointers, and he was fed the ball a few times down low. All depends on match-ups. He had noah on him for a good portion of the game.

I can actually see a LOT of players that wouldn't mind being in Chris Bosh's shoe with Lebron at the helm...4 finals, 2 titles and boosts his overall career while and as a 3rd option...and still got a max deal when all's said and done.

what has Irving done that makes Kevin Love a clear cut third option?

Um, at this point Kyrie plays like their first option, so you need to edit your question.

A guy who has never had a winning record or sniffed the playoffs in six seasons of basketball is supposed to be worried about actually making it to the Finals and possibly losing "damaging his brand?" Has ISH become this deluded?

while I don't know if resting your best talent on the bench is the best way to win games.
but I guess if you have all the talents in the league.
it really doesn't matter.
what question?

Love has been playing the first option role for a few years now and getting hit with double teams (especially in the clutch) because his teams couldn't shoot.
He's going to have a great time in Cleveland. He could easily put up numbers on par with Lebron. He's a better 3 point shooter than Bosh, with a quicker trigger and the ability to attack off the pump-fake. He'll get his touches and make good use of them.
The only thing I worry about is that he and Bron both like the left block. It will probably depend on the matchups from night to night who gets the touches there.
He may shoot a few less times a game than he did in Minny, but I think this "3rd option" talk is overblown.
And he's sooooo much better than Irving in the half court.

How can you even begin to say Bosh didn't win the fvck out of that situation? Dude won 2 championships, made 4 Finals appearances and then got a massive contract at the end of it. bbbbut he's beta

Losing the Finals is worse than not even getting there. There are people who believe this.

Only if your team is all-time stacked and favored by a landslide to win. If you are a shoe in to the Finals and you lose, it's worse than not getting there on a bad team.
Again: If you have Cleveland's talent, no matter that their experience will limit them at times, they are all-time stacked. More stacked than MIA... you are taking a huge hit in rep if you lose in the Finals. And if Love loses... let's say he plays poorly in some way, then what will people say? "He really was a garbage player, can't do it on the big stage." So yes, it would be worse for his rep than 'not sniffing the playoffs on a bad team.'

He is going to use Cleveland like Lebron used Miami. Get a ring or two , then go home...or where he feels happy.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if he bolted. He's going to be nothing more than a spot up 3-point shooter playing next to LeBron dominating the ball and Kyrie/Dion jacking shots all game.

Lakers don't want Love,, Byron Scott is a defensive oriented coach who only wants players who will play defense...
Defense is to Kevin Love as ***** is to me.. Freaking allergic to it
IMO K Love will be a Knicker, he's a snake who can't be trusted.. typical Knicker

haha, well sports fans are idiots and espn markets to idiots.
Cleveland isn't the favorite, says who? Who is? Cleveland has the most talent by far.
The only other team that is worth mentioning as a favorite currently is SAS, but I really think that it won't happen again. Who else is good? There aren't even very many teams you can say "This team will def be in the conference Finals" except for Cleveland.

They sure are, just like OKC is the favorite out West. Fact is the Thunder, Spurs, Clippers, and Bulls would all be favored in a series against the Cavs. Well maybe not the Bulls, but the the Cavs are far from the favorites.
