They'll probably win more games but they're not a threat to anyone.

I've always thought of Carmelo as a player who could get you deep in the playoffs if you knew how to build around him. He gets a bad rap for being selfish and not playing a style conducive to winning..but he's really not that guy..he's just a natural pure scorer. What he did on that 54 win Knicks team was pretty impressive. They were far from stacked, but they were decently constructed until they collapsed and injuries killed them.

Give Melo a quality defensive anchor/rim protector/rebounder, an unselfish and poised PG, and a great 3&D guy. A core of Omer Asik, Mike Conley, Trevor Ariza, and Melo is going to be really damn good. Just surround them with high energy guys and a competent coach and you might have a contender.

Just imagine if he played in the right system for a great defensive coach like Thibs and alongside great defenders like Jimmy Butler and Joakim Noah
