Bayless and Smith make their living pushing the controversy as far as they can. Sometimes they step over the line. Bayless maybe crossed the line hear, but in a small way. He didn't condone rape here, and may not have to apologize to anyone. But it was too dumb a comment to be worth risking trouble for. It's not thought-provoking, deep, funny, or anything. Just kind of weird.

Skip has felt this way for over 10yrs. Here's a "Page 2" article he wrote from Sept. of 04.

:oldlol: You could tell Skip knew he had gone too far, and was trying to wiggle his way out of it. #awkward
Skip must own ESPN, cause I don't know how he can get away with not being suspended for this, while Stephen A was suspended for merely telling women that they shouldn't provoke fights with abusive men. :facepalm I don't like to pull the race card, but I'm struggling to find any other reason.

I actually like Skip Bayless solely for the fact that he has become very successful through playing society like a fiddle. He plays a fictional character, yet everyone believes that is the real Skip Bayless.

However this was a bit much and he should probably get a suspension from ESPN for it.

If you and the others can't tell the difference between what Smith said and this I am not sure would you are capable of understanding..I will try to explain but just once..

What Smith said could easily be considered blaming victims of abuse of causing their abuse//Some thought that was a slap in the face of victims to ever even hint at something like that.

Skip didn't even come close to or hint that victims are to blame for being abused. His opinion was that Kobe sold more shoes because he lost his sqeuky clean image. This has nothing to do with the victims..

Its not really hard to see the difference.

"Remember Kobe pre-Eagle, Colorado," Bayless started. "He failed in his first sneaker deal because he was too clean cut? I think it was Adidas that had him first?

"He couldn't sell sneakers because he didn't have enough edge," he said. "But post-Eagle, Colorado, it brought a little attention to him, like it gave him a little bit of ... sizzle."

I can't remember the last time a basketball article caused me to actually laugh out loud and spit out my food. Jesus Christ, man.

Also, what the fvck is this, shit on Kobe month? :lol

One thing I haven't seen in this thread yet is anyone say flat out that Kobe didn't sell more sneakers because his image was changed by what happened in Colorado. Typical internet message board. Talk about everything but the issue itself..

If someone is sure that's not true then come out and say it...

Does anyone have his sneaker sales figures before and after Colorado?

So you are positive Kobe didn't sell more sneakers because of what happened in Colorado? Is that correct?

How is this shitting on Kobe? It might be shitting on sneaker buyers..

It gave Kobe a little "sizzle."

lol.

Kobe before the accusation was a Grant Hill type of figure. Afterward, not only did he have the high IQ, marvelous speaking ability, and good looks...but he also had street cred.

I'll say it again:

Kobe signed with Nike the same summer Colorado happened in 2003.

Nike shelved Kobe for 3 years and released the Zoom Kobe I in 2006.

Check your facts Skip.

Skip has the same DNA as gossip bloggers and paparazzi. He's a low life who makes a living talking down on other people.

I would say it was due to him becoming the face of the franchise after Colorado, because Shaq left leaving behind a void. He also developed into the league's best player and premier star of the NBA around 2006 which is when his popularity went atmospheric.
