I really like the lyrics from "under a bridge" by RHCP. In that particular song, he's talking about his heroin addiction and the ensuing consequences.

"I can't believe I'm this lonely" - this is as real as it gets, more often than not you realize how many people will not offer support or counsel of any kind when you are in deep trouble. Instead, many friends will simply avoid or flee from you. Yeah, that's what being an adult is...figuring out everything on your own but it's a bit difficult to swallow the fact that these people you've spent so much time with, are not available when you need someone to talk to or seek advice. It feels fake that your friends will invite you out to their anniversaries and other life events but find it unnecessary to offer words of encouragement or a simple text to check up on how your doing. :facepalm

great song. i've heard that song in the past and had "sometimes i feel like my only friend" hit me like a bag of bricks

i've felt similar to what you wrote above btw... like WTF GUYS CANT U SEE IM STRUGGLIN HOW ABOUT U ACT LIKE A FRIEND?? having spoken to those very friends i felt that way towards since, i've come to realize the signals of distress i'm putting out just might not be as transparent and obvious as my brain wants to think they are. basically, they didn't really know. that's in some cases.

but in others, like when i just gotta get shit off my chest so i pour out to somebody, the response i get back is.... shell shocked. they're like "what did i just witness and how the hell am i supposed to respond" when in fact a response is the last thing i'm looking for. just an acknowledgement of understanding is all i need.

but yea its hard not to feel kind of petty and bitter towards your friends for not supporting you in tough times. but at least in my case, those feelings were based on the fantasy of expecting that those select friends know whats going on in my head as well as i do.
