BIRMINGHAM Ala. (Reuters) - An Alabama man who sued over being hit and kicked by police after leading them on a high-speed chase will get $1,000 in a settlement with the city of Birmingham, while his attorneys will take in $459,000, officials said Wednesday.

Can't really say I'm sorry for him, he tried to kill a cop but he wouldn't be able to enjoy it anytime soon anyway because he's serving 20 years in jail for attempted murder.

Those lawyers tho....damn. :biggums:

edit: technically he didn't win the lawsuit, it was a settlement

Dammit man.

And the taxpayers foot the bill as usual, instead of the perp cop or the department. Since Obomber is into forcing people to get insurance, he should force cops to get insured for incidents of neglegence and brutality. Raise their premiums every time they have an incident until the insurance company deems them uninsurable. Then let it come out of their own pay. Oh but that makes too much common sense. It would be too fair.

That's unbelievable, and so not right. I'm glad the perp only got $1,000 though.

This guy should have been killed execution style. Ran over a cop intentionally trying to kill him and hit a school bus trying to run from the cops. What a piece of shit.

SMH Since when did cops get law degrees and run for a judicial seat so as to qualify them to pronounce someone guilty and sentence them to death out in the field? And since when did the judicial system change so as to hold court out in the field where the prosecutor, defense team, judge, and only expert witness is the cop?

Ummm looks to me like he was just trying to avoid the spike strip that the cop had just put down. Don't want to get run over, don't put out spike strips in the middle of the road during a high speed pursuit. Easy

Anyways the most striking thing about this story is how in the world do lawyers get to keep 99% of the take :oldlol:

the guy tried to run a cop over.

come up with one vaild story to support that video that doesnt justify cops beating the shit out of him.

1) It's their job to arrest the perp and bring him in, not meet out street punishment
2) He was unconscious :biggums:

dont care. i have no sympathy for him.

the world needs more of this and less PC crap where people can sue because the cops hurt them after they break the law. somehow this guy is the victim? hes the one suing?

heres a tip: dont break the law. dont run over cops. dont do stupid shit.

Most if not all municipalities (some self insure) have insurance polices that cover this type of thing, and most police departments are unionized. Individual officers pay union dues out of every paycheck.
